I'll take a guess there will be an announcement before the date Saints play Wire so don't worry you little grey hairs mate

Tesco live in a different economic world, they will open their bigger shop to get customers out of morrisons/ASDA, return on investment will take months, not years.

| Quote ="Paul Youane"Not quite that clearly apparently, as the bond is only put in place when they want to open the Tesco store before the stadium is complete. The bond is for the value of the outstanding value of the stadium works and in effect is a "guarantee" for the council that Langtree will finish off the stadium works even though the money generating part of the development is up and running ie if Langtree don't finish the stadium the Council call the bond in and use that money to finish the stadium.'"
Oh no! That's really "pwnage" of myself (and to be fair a lot more concise and accurate version of what the bond is than Chair Maker's description).

Tesco have just opened 4(i think its 4) new tesco stores in and around the north.
They also will be building a new tesco in widnes with construction starting in april. Sainsburys and morrisons have also building new stores around the country.
For whatever reason supermarkets are still being built even in the current economic climate, so i wouldn't worry to much about tesco not being bothered.

Tesco seem to be slowly taking over the world!! They can be stopped as soon as our project is completed and the stadium open
I'd like to see some site clearance started, its just been a huge pile of bricks and out buildings for so long now its getting boring, no wonder there are rumours abound of delays and problems.
It was exactly 2 months yesterday since the club last posted an update on the website and while i don't expect miracles, just a press release from Saints on who has won the building contract would be a start, its hard to understand any secrecy on matters like this it leaves it wide open to unwanted speculation.
As things stand if we manage to get the ball rolling in the next 6 weeks which seems highly optimistic given the lack of news, allowing only 3 months for contingency (not a lot on a major development) we'll be lucky to be in between May-July 2011!
Wonder if Turner will be doing coaches to Widnes/Leigh...

Only a snippet which may have been posted before but the article says:
"And in May, it intends to start work on St Helens Rugby League Football Club's new £50m 18,000-capacity stadium."
Which looks closer to July/August 2011

The rumour (strong one) going round (has come to me from different sources) is a 15th March announcemnt and almost imimediate start on a 60 week build.
Also that the club are not in the driving seat with regards the tender process and therefore can't get involved without other parties announcing first.

| considering we will be losing revenue the longer we are not in our own stadium there will be financial penalities to the builder for any delays, so i expect it to finish within the quoted 60 week build time

Well i don't really care where an announcement comes from anymore, anyone involved will do lol...
Starting late March /April for 60 weeks is still June barring any delays, still i hope the rumour is true!

I work within the construction game, it's not very often jobs meet there deadlines.
The penalities for not hitting deadlines are massive! And i mean huge, but in this country nobody can predict how the weather. I did no buisnes from the 21st december 2009 up to 18th of jan 2010. Also with the recent cols weather not done much since.
That's the nature of the building game in england.

Langtree are not even involved in the Tender process, the have handed it on to a firm called ARCADIS, Langtree will oversee any appeals there may be. most of the pre plannng has been done by specialist in their field hired by Langtree.

| If they start work on site by the first week of April , which is probably the soonest it could start from now, and if there are no hiccups, fingers crossed, the earliest we will be able to watch a game in the new ground will be first weekend of August 2011.
Just thought we needed a bit af a reality check.
Looks like we will play the season in Widnes.
Is it worth getting a season ticket for that year?

You must be expecting one hell of a stadium for a 16 month build.
Wires Stadium was knocked up in 10 months
Llanelli Scarlets new stadium with its 15k capacity also took 10 months to build.
The Keepmoat stadium in Doncaster, started construction in October 2005 and was opened for the RL in December 2006 eg 14 month build.
As a further guide, Southamptons St.Marys stadium which has a capacity twice that of Saints proposed stadium took approximately 19 months.

| It's realistic. If it does it to the bid plan then it will be one of the very few builds that has come in on time. The bid says 60 weeks minimum. That at least takes us well into June. So realistically it will run into July. That's if it starts by April 1st which is pushing it.
There have been too many unrealistic announcements by people involved in this build. I'm trying to inject some real world truth into it instead of these dream world wishful thinking dates that come out of the club.

| So where are you guys going to be playing next season if this isn't ready (which is looking very likely) for 2011? I've heard Widnes and Leigh. Any considerations of places like Bolton/Liverpool/Everton (spreading the game and that)?

problem is, as all the fans will be travelling, we need a smaller stadium, so leigh or widnes would be ideal. Personally, i'd be tempted to play the wire/wigan/salford games at their own grounds, get a better crowd so we'd get more cash, or is that just to sensible?

Don't think that's sensible in the slightest to be honest. Giving the opposition home advantage sounds daft to me just for a small financial gain. Can't imagine much of a bumper crowd at Salford either.
And it shouldn't be all the fans travelling. That misses out on the chance to increase the market in new areas. If they market the game to the locals, it could increase your fan base, and I doubt you'd achieve that in places like Leigh and Widnes where the locals will more than likely be fans of those respective clubs (even if they don't physically go to the games).
