Nope, but you said he went missing in big games, that was a big game and he won it for them playing up the middle whenever possible.

Did i say Peacock? I meant JJB. Regardless my point being its a mid-season game against france not the tri-nations or world cup yet, we're going to have to see a change in the regular personnell based on the three points i mentioned.

| Quote ="Billinge_Lump"Plenty of 6's in Australia are mainly runners.
They expect their 7's to be able to do their job properly though.
And Pryce has outplayed McGuire. CC semi last year, play offs last year, SL game at Leeds last year, CC game this year, SL game this year.
When they play together? Both can't play at 6 at the same time, so how has McGuire outplayed Pryce? Oh yes, Pyrce has been moved to accomodate McGuire as he can play more than one position. Unlike McGuire.'"
ok mate 1. name the plenty of 6's in the nrl who are just runners?? i bet ya dont as you are just wrong.
2. the games u mention are not the biggest ones!! the finals and internationals are.
3. and as for mcguire playing one postion he has played plenty of scrum half for leeds gb and england. infact i think he has the makings of a better 7 than he does a 6 just like benji. pryce has played plenty of his club rugby and most of his international rugby on the wing or sub. the odd game at 7 for saints. most people will tell you(even saints fans) pryce is not a six he's a runner. he doesnt have the passing or kicking game to cut it as an international 6 mcguire does he's proved it.
im trying to talk rubgy here not get into some who's best debate as well all have different opinions. i just think pryce need to find a role for england as there is no doubting his talent. but been just a runner against world class defence just doesnt cut it. they will shut him down and he goes missing out the back.

Same can be said about 'bog eyes'.
Finishes off other peoples breaks, cant tackle for toffee, cant break his own wind and he cant organise or kick.

Quote 2. the games u mention are not the biggest ones!! the finals and internationals are. '" Pretty sure Leon has both a Lance Todd and a Harry Sunderland trophy at home.
He's also played well in many games against Leeds (our main rivals) over the past couple of years. I would suggest that they games in which he's "gone missing" coincide with the rest of his team also being outplayed, which always makes it difficult for a half.
Quote 3. and as for mcguire playing one postion he has played plenty of scrum half for leeds gb and england. infact i think he has the makings of a better 7 than he does a 6 just like benji. '" Agreed, when used from the bench for GB, he comes on at 7 and burrow can be used as the interchange hooker. I was suprised how good his shorter game was.

Pryce moved to Saints in order to play his prefferred position - 6. Since he's arrived he's consistantly been one of our most dangerous players, scoring and setting up lots of tries. He has played alot on the wing during his bradford days, but even then his best moments came when he roamed in field.
Quote he doesnt have the passing or kicking game to cut it as an international 6 mcguire does he's proved it'" He does have a passing game. His kicking game is generally rubbish though, although I don't reckong McGuire's is all that cop.

Pryce has a slightly more rounded game than you give him credit for, he also has the physical abilty to help the forwards later in the game, even against test defences. I would state that he is definately one of our more naturally gifted players and could give it a decent go in the NRL as I think they would really rate him (wait for it) as a full back - he's rubbish under a bomb, but the Ockers seem to place the emhesis on attacking abilty. It would also suit his habit of drifting in and out of the game, allowing him to pick his moment without the reprise of being called lazy or accused of going missing.

What are these games McGuire has played a part in winning for England/GB at 6?

Well he was an vital part of getting GB to a TN final, and was one of the positives in the last world cup. Pryce was very good in 06-07 for England.
Both are good players arguing that either is rubbish is cobblers.
I just don't think TS has time for people like Pryce. (He's sacked Danny Ward, and got rid of Thackray because of their unprofessional attitude, and now he's got rid of Reardon at Warrington).

| Hmmm
A few points about this team.
1) I don't think i see a goal kicker.
2) I don't see any creativity in the back row.
3) The half backs are all good players but none are (pardon the cliche) on field generals. All three like floating around the field, none are players that truely take control of a game.

| Quote ="sgtwilko"pryce is just not an international six!! he's a runner and a bloody good one but is there a place for a guy like this against defences that are tighter than sir alan suger's bum hole.
i think pryce fitted into ando's game plan of playing a pure runner at six, thos worked great in sl but ando has tried to do the same in the nrl by moving hayne to 6 who is everthing pryce is and a hole lot more and it failed as aussie defence is too good.'"
One the things I have thought for a while is that Pryce would be a better option at 13 for Saints and England largely due to his running game. This doesnt mean I think McGuire is good enough for international level but maybe there is a future there for Young Tomkins or Wheeler ...

Did I say [iany[/i were [ijust[/i runners? Pryce isn't [ijust[/i a runner, neither are people like Inglis. Funnily enough McGuire's game is pretty much all about running, I take it you'd rather someone else was picked over both of them seeing as you have an aversion to runners playing at 6?
Quote 2. the games u mention are not the biggest ones!! the finals and internationals are.
'"
Now you want to narrow it down as you've been proved wrong. When has McGuire outplayed Pryce as a 6 in an International? 1 game in a shambles of a tournament? Before that back in 2004? He certainly didn't outplay him in the Tri nations over in Austrtalia in 2006.
Quote 3. and as for mcguire playing one postion he has played plenty of scrum half for leeds gb and england. infact i think he has the makings of a better 7 than he does a 6 just like benji. pryce has played plenty of his club rugby and most of his international rugby on the wing or sub. the odd game at 7 for saints. most people will tell you(even saints fans) pryce is not a six he's a runner. he doesnt have the passing or kicking game to cut it as an international 6 mcguire does he's proved it.'"
A six can be mainly a runner, McGuire is mainly a runner. His passing game isn't as good as Pryce's and his kicking game is about on par, neither are that hot at it. The fact you are saying he doesn't have a passing game shows you don't know as much about him as you'd like to think. He's no Darren Lockyer, but his passing is better than most give him credit for.
Quote im trying to talk rubgy here not get into some who's best debate as well all have different opinions. i just think pryce need to find a role for england as there is no doubting his talent. but been just a runner against world class defence just doesnt cut it. they will shut him down and he goes missing out the back.'"
Then McGuire is buggered then.
The fact that we are having this discussion shows that both have talent IMO.

| On McGuire versus Pryce, it is clear from the other Leeds and Saints players being dropped from the England squad that Smith is not picking players who did not perform in the World Cup.
Pryce was disappointing by his own standards in Australia (in terms of defence, errors and lack of attacking impact), whilst McGuire rose to the occasion and looked like one of England's more dangerous players (albeit in a losing team, as has been pointed out).
Smith is simply sending a message to the players who did not perform, and also making a point to the pundits that he is prepared to look at different players unlike previous coaches.

He's played 14 out of 18 games this season scoring seven tries, which I believe is more than McGuire.
He is Wigans third top try scorer so he's not doing too bad for a "rookie"
