Also heard of Matt King from Warrington but doesn't appear to have much substance.

Saints are working on one more forward and the ever elusive outside back for next year, a current SOO outside back is a possibility although I have not heard any names as of yet. Plus I thought we was full on Non-Fed Trained, however the system is so complicated about who counts and who doesn't then we may not be full.

No, not at all. Riley is the typical Super League youth product, solid and reliable but ultimately limited. I did think he might have kicked on after the wondertry he scored at Odsal but he hasn't. Looks to be well down the pecking order at the Wire and I am sure we could promote an academy player of similar ability levels if we needed to.

I wouldn't personally go for Riley, his career seems to be panning out as a carbon copy of Kevin Penny's.

Much better all round player than Penny, imo. Shouldn't have any trouble completing a 10 year SL career with some club.

I definitely agree he's a much better player, it's just his career path seems very similar. I'd imagine he'll and up at the likes of Quins, Salford or Wakefield long term. Should they stay in SL of course.

Agreed, although I think he could manage a bit higher - a mid table club, rather than bargain basement.

Yeah maybe, there does seem to be a lack of talented wingers in SL.

I wouldn't particulary take him over Ade (whom I expect to be on his way out of saints reasonably soon). He's more pacey, I suppose, but no star.

Agreed, I hope the two more signings we're reportedly working on are of a really good calibre. Especially the back.

The Chris Hill one seems to have legs, in my mind. I know its been implied that Lafranchi is going to play prop to replace Graham, but I'm kind of thinking Royce always starts a prop at 13, so he, along with TP fill this role, so we'd have -

10. Hill
13. Puletua
14. LMS
15. Laffranchi

or such like.

I really don't know what interesting english backs are available if we've got another signing lined up.

He would be an excellent signing. A proper centre, giving us two for the first time in years. Very solid defensively and a big barge over presence in the centres in attack.

Would he be a better option at centre than Soliola or Wheeler (ignoring Wheeler's injuries, which I admit is difficult to do)?

I don't think he would be.

Personally, I think he's crap. I'd rather have Wheeler in there, or even Meli.

I personally think he would. He's not a Saints-type player, very reminiscent of a vintage Bradford player, all brawn and no class. But he's a natural centre who can defend in that position. I don't think personally Soliola, who is a massive defensive liability, would be able to cope at centre. Wheeler as you mention is always injured and isn't naturally a centre and would have to develop into one over time. Meli is a quality centre IMO, but always has his lapses.

I'm not suggesting Clubb would be the best signing we've ever made, but he'd improve the depth of the squad and overall strength of the starting 13 IMO.
