Why? Rush won't be accountable NEXT year so why would he have any say at all about who goes and stays? This season's performances, player issues et al - absolutely and that's the right way to work as Rush is the boss as you say - this year. Transfer targets for next year are and should be the domain of Brown and McManus so if the player wanting a transfer doesn't feature in Brown's plans then it's his call; regardless of what Rush says or thinks.
If that's not the case then I cannot see Brown having accepted the job in the first place [size=50(despite the fact I still think there's a level chance he won't be here....)[/size

Nope, but without his decision we would have lost and that really is a numerical fact. People might have felt differently about our resilience had the decision gone against us. In fact, I think a few people would have been on Makinson's case about not catching the ball!

McManus trusts Rush and given that Brown should have been focusing on Hudds for the rest of the season (even though he obviously now isn't!), I would imagine McManus would have taken the advice of someone he trusts over someone he has yet to even work with. But it was something I was just putting out there as a possibility.

I am sure bown will have had long discussions with rush and KC about the players, and will certainly take account of their views. But in the end it is brown who will select the team next year, with little or no input from rush, so if he sees no future for tge likes of foster or Gaskell then they may as well head for tge exit now. Equally, if he sees something in them that rush doesn't then he will let them know that they will figure in his plans.

It isn't fact, it's speculation. We was up 19-14 and the Catalans try was scored near the touchline, it isn't certain Dureau would have kicked it. In fact statistics dictate he is more likely to miss it from that position and under pressure.
You can't claim it to be numerical fact as Dureau may have missed the kick, it is indeed speculation. A lot of people, including yourself, seem to be forgetting that. Not to mention there was still 6 minutes left and anything could have happened.

Saintsfan has never been one to let facts get in the way of a good argument.

| Good job this is a rumours thread because facts wise it's total mathematical ****************
I certainly hope Maths or any subject requiring facts is not the specialist subject. I would suggest philosophy.

| Yep, add four to the Cats TOUCHLINE try still puts them a point behind when I went to school. Still im sure Saints fan will argue to the contrary with all on sundry blinded by her love affair with that aussie pillock we had as coach at the start of the year.

| The rumours are growing that Salford need to get rid of Holdsworth due to financial problems. This would inevitably entail a transfer fee, but would he be worth a few quid to solve our half back problem? Does he have a kicking game?

Maybe the player who's put a transfer fee in could be sold and we could buy someone with the cash.
I very much doubt it, I think the days of saints buying players are long gone.

| If it is Gaskell who wants out, surely we would reject any request anyway? It's clear that Brown doesn't see Lance as a halfback and there is nobody available and within our price range that would be better than Gaskell so why let him go?
I hope whatever problems Gaskell has can be sorted out before next season. I would be gutted to see him leave, his potential is enormous.

Player plus cash deal, or Gaskell, Dixon and one other in a swap?

Dixon can't be part of that deal, he's off contract at the end of the Season and already agreed a deal with someone.

| Would be an utterly stupid decision to let Gaskell go, unless we have someone of proven international quality coming in. Makes no sense to let a promising kid walk into the arms of your closest rivals when the incoming coach has already stated he doesn't see our current no.6 playing there next season.

Hohaia may not be good enough, but neither, at the moment is Gaskell. There are no half backs available, off contraact, and off quota, therefore, if we want to get a better 6, then we have to look to do something different. Gaskell doesn't look as though he will figure in Brown's plans, therefore, trading him in for a "better" model makes sense? Yes, we don't want to lose him, but keeping him in the reserves to simply stop another club from signing him is neither fair on Gaskell, nor good business or sporting sense.
Getting someone to take Hohaia in a swap deal would be the ideal scenario, but isn't going to happen.

| Yesterday's game reminded me why we weren't concerned about losing Mason last time. Turned in a good performance, that was spoiled by silly penalties and mistakes. Clearly, Brown has been unable to coach them out of him, so I would leave him be.

A talented guy who's failed to grab his chance. He's been replaced in the pecking order by Jones for Centre and Gaskell for standoff. Had he been able to string more than 3 games together without getting injured, he'd possibly be our first choice in one of these positions.
Its very much sink or swim and a loan deal seems the only way imo to allow him to both prove his worth as a first team player and give him the kick up the he needs.

| Holdsworth is a very good player and one of the few halves over here worth investing in. I keep reading on here that Brown is determined to sign a stand-off, if this is the case I would be disappointed if we aren't at least interested in him. It wouldn't surprise me if Brown has changed his priorities though, with Gaskell already here and Hohaia's good form in recent weeks.

He is increasingly becoming a waste of cap money and must surely be running out of chances. However to say he needs a kick up the booty is a bit harsh if he is genuinely injured all the time.
He's a real talent and it's a great shame he can't get out there more often. He's far too good to be playing in the championship IMO but if that's what it takes to get him a good run of games in then I'm all for it.

Obviously I don't know for sure, as I don't have access to him, but although he's had a few serious injuries (shoulder against wigan etc), there's been loads of 1-2 week layoffs for him and rumours have claimed he's a bit of a softy with little aches and pains.
Obviously the rumour mill isn't the best source, but its all I've got.

Holdsworth would be a good option IF he wasn't on quota. Unless we can offload a foreigner, then there is no point in being interested in him.
