| I think there is a lot of misunderstanding about how these things work.
You get money for this sort of thing by bidding to various funding sources, usually EU money but it can come from all sorts of different bodies such as the National Lottery. Getting English Heritage backing for your bid is massive tick on the bid and would mean a lot when it is considered by the people with the money.
English Heritage don't have much money themselves.

I don't know if your remark about English Heritage not having money was aimed at me, but I know they don't, I was being facetious .
Such funding has been cut dramatically in recent years, the government won't be providing anything and the is starting to hit the fan in the EU so we won't get owt there either.
IMO, it'll be left to rot a bit more for a few years, become dangerously unsafe and then get knocked down.

That is usually how it works. English Heritage had identified a forge where the first safety razors had been made (Wilkinson Sword from memory). The developer waited if for it to become completely structurally unsound, so simply knocked it down. Shame really.

| We should just go knock the stupid glass place down. It's an eye sore and is of no real value to anyone. We could steal a JCB and knock it down, then say Scott Moore did it when driving home from his New Years party.

I've seen the pictures on Facebook.
It's actually a very disturbing amount of damage considering you can get two or three storms a year on this scale.
I've not heard of sections of the DW, HJ or the KC Stadiums coming off in great big chunks. It doesn't entirely instill me with confidence.
Are we going to all sit in there on a gusty day waiting for a chunk of roof to blow off and nearly decapitate a winger a la Gary Mercer in 1990?

| Does seem very poorly designed. Wind is clearly an issue for the structure.
I hope it's not the club forking out for the constant repairs.

That's the same place as last time, except it was slightly further to the left as you look at KC's statue. It looks like either there has been shoddy workmanship along that stretch of roofing or there is a design fault given that will probably be where the prevailing winds hit the stadium hardest. If it's a design fault then that could turn out to be a real nightmare as this will be a recurring problem without an adjustment to the structure of the roof.
A single occurrence of this could be down to teething problems with a new build. That it has happened again is very serious and worrying.

| This is a big worry. It obviously needs to be rectified before the widnes game, but the contractors wont be allowed up there whist the winds are still as bad. Also, how do incidents like this affect the ground safety certificate??
Looks like a specification issue to me - the structural engineer/designer has specified a roof lining that should be able to stand the wind loading, only to find in the cold hard light of day that it cant. The trouble is, the cantilevers that hold the roof structure will have been designed to carry the loading that the current materials provide. If you now have to go for something more substantial, it will be heavier and the steelwork may not be designed to carry it. Most dead loading will have a 60% factor of safety, which may be upped as its a roof that could at some stage be covered with snow. That may be sufficient to enable them to reinstall a new roof lining that is more substantial, but only the Structural Engineer would know that. I think Saints will have no option but to make a statement on this pretty soon.
