| Quote ="wakey_saint"I'd be interested to see where you heard KC wanted to sign Smith from. I was told in early August (by a guy who knows the Hull KR chairman very well) that we had tied up the deal for Travis Burns (and Burns has said in an interview earlier this season that it was KC who he spoke to most and really pushed for him to sign). We knew at that point that Walsh would be here this season too so find it hard to believe that we would have had any interest in Smith as we wouldnt have needed him'"
Obviously I won't name the source, but it was in the same conversation regarding Cunningham getting the Saints job in July last year. He is very well connected in RL.

Hang on! Severity of injury isn't always reflective of how bad a tackle is! Interesting if we're after Smith, I'd be stunned if that's true because I've heard the complete opposite.

Didn't I read yesterday you having no doubts Tomkins was signing for Bath RU? How did that work out?
No doubt you were also certain a few months ago that Lebron was never going back to Cleveland

Is he as dominant as Greg Inglis, Burgess, Cameron Smith, Graham? If not then by definition his is a "second tier" or below player.
Understand that a tier two player is still an outstanding, world class individual. But the aforementioned (plus others) are freaks of nature.

| Tomkins would be a fantastic addition to our squad, he'd settle the FB debate once and for all and would run lines and offer a threat that Walsh and Burns only dream about Wello/Makinson etc making now.
Will he come to us though? Not a hope in hell.

| I'm amazed how people wouldn't want Sam tomkins. Until he left for the NRL he was the best player playing in super league. He's a total threat everytime he gets the ball.
He Might not of set the world on fire in the NRL but he will rip it up in super league again.

Most people with a brain would want him in a Saints shirt, despite the banter. It's not like were flush with fullback options and a spine of Tomkins, Burns, Walsh , Roby plus maybe Wilkin operating in the back row would be the strongest in SL comfortably. Throw in the monster pack and we could book tickets for both finals next year in advance.
Still not gonna happen though I would love to see the meltdown on Cherry and White if it did, Rogues wouldn't come visiting for a while I suspect.

And you'd be wrong, but then that's nothing new.
Does it show Saints lack of ambition in not trying to sign Tomkins especially considering their fullback problems?

Lack of ambition? No.
You don't know who we have lined up for next season so there might not be any cap room left and management see that Lomax back next season too.

How do you know we aren't? To answer my own question you don't.
Saints could indeed be talking to his agent and seeing what's what. Given the troubles with good old Zak the whino's might be interested too. We are plenty ambitious enough , McManus has shown that by investing in the team - I'd be more concerned about your own teams ambition if I were you, being a selling club an all

Of course it will. I'm sure there'll be a big statement saying
"Saints didnt want me , they didn't offer me a bean , McManus rang me personally to say we don't need you Sammy we have Awesome Dawson"
You talk utter complete s**te, everyone knows the goons are favourites to sign little Sammy so if as expected he re-appears over at the rented accommodation I don't think many people will be shocked or think of you as some kind of oracle. I'm sure Pollard is just working hard on finding some new way to cheat the salary cap again

In terms of an ability to change a game and/or win a game almost single handedly, then Sam Tomkins is definitely in that tier that you describe.

He's not the same type player as inglis and certainly not like jammer or a Burgess brother.
Only a idiot would bring those names up as a comparison.

Seriously, are we judging him on 25 games in the NRL, on top of a move over 10,000 miles away, a different way of life, and the inevitable homesickness??? How many Southern Hemisphere players have come into our league and took time to settle before making an impact?
He's scored 13 tries by the way...not a terrible stat.

| He looks like he's a yard or 2 slower than when he left Wigan, I'm not sure his game is suited to full back anymore. I think it's time he moved back to 6.

I think wigans style of attack fits Sam tomkins down to the ground. He's Defo lost pace but still top class.

His game has definitely changed. His decision making and timing are first class, but his kick returns aren't great. It would be better for the England team if he moved into the halves too.

In his last year at Wigan he wasn't doing the kick returns, he passed to Richards and Charnley.
It's when he gets the ball in that loop that Wigan do, that's when he's dangerous.
