Apparently he was interviewed and said he wants some forwards.

I bet he's secretly made up! If we were top of the league and destroying every team all he could hope for was the same. Now he has the resources to to really improve the team and squad and build a legacy of his own here

| Your best players today were a Wiganer, who was released from their Accademy, and an ex Wigan player enough said! Wigan were poor in attack today and won by a canter, if the ball sticks at the Etihad you are in big trouble.
As for the Saints youth, Wigan had 11 homegrown players in their 17. Most of which, apart from Roby are more superior. Gaskell should be in the side but the poisened dwarf does not like him. As for the pack, this is the worst six that I have seen in Saints colours since I started to watch the game.

one of the best youth set ups in the league, THE best training facilities in the league, THE biggest dedicated rugby league stadium in the country, full use of the salary cap plus extra allowances for Robes and wilkin/ade (i'm hoping wello retires)

What's shocking about that, I've seen the training facilities and they're on a par with what Premier League footballers have to work with. They were a multi million pound development if I remember rightly.

Our new training facilities are amazing. Our youth set up is fantastic. We aren't making the most of it at the moment but it is still fantastic.

| Quote ="Saddened!"The worst derby ever today? A true mistakeathon if there ever was one, no intensity, no spirit from either side. Wigan will be all pleased with themselves, but they've been terrible too. I'd be surprised if that wasn't their worst performance of the season, which says it all about us. That has to be one of the worst games I've ever seen. We were simply awful and Wigan must have made upwards of 20 basic, unforced errors. Gelling has an absolute mare on the wing.
As for us, it just further highlights how far we've dropped under the previous two coaches. We're now a mid table side, capable of the odd decent performance if all the ducks are aligned, but in general will not compete to any serious degreee. We're not in a false position in the league and poor Mr Brown has some serious work to do. It's like being given Susan Boyle's body and being asked for Rihanna. Where do you start?
As for today:
1 Wellens 1/10 - Do yourself and everyone else a favour and retire. Completely ruining his legacy now and a complete liability for the side. Millward picked up on it, he's a black hole for attacking moves and offers nothing in defense. Finch was laughing at his attempt and he's never in the right position when kicks are made or players waltz over untouched. He's robbed Makinson or Lomax of two years of valuable development time at fullback
2 Meli 7/10 - Looked dangerous and had a couple of good runs but had no ball.
3 Shenton 5/10 - Tried hard as always, but still no chance to run with it
4 Wheeler 3/10 - I'm not wrong on him, he's not worth a contract even when he is fit
5 Makinson 7/10 - A few brilliant runs negated by a few naive defensive mistakes
6 Hohaia 1/10 - Should be released. He was a major, major mistake which will hamper the club for as long as he stays for
7 Lomax 5/10 - Never gave up but cost us in the first half, dashing out of the line stupidly. Needs to be moved to 1 or be put along a proper organising hallback
8 Perry 3/10 - Offers nothing, another overseas player we need to look for a mutually agreeable exit ASAP
9 Roby 4/10 - Very quiet, given no platform, but was shocking when we were on their line
10 Laffranchi 4/10 - A backrower pretending to be a prop. Doesn't work hard enough and has no impact
11 Soliola 5/10 - Never got going, but at least tried to stand up to their pack
12 Wilkin 4/10 - Anonymous, but coming back he's always going to be
13 Flannery 5/10 - Anonymous, back to how he's been for 99% of his deal with Saints
14 Maggenis 6/10 - Half decent, dozing for the Finch break
15 LMS 5/10 - Not given enough time, had no impact
16 Clough 4/10 - Looked terrible this season, a forward who offers no aggression and little go forward
17 Flanagan 7/10 - Smashed Lauaki and tackled well.
This season is a mess and it's over for us already. We should use what remains of this year to look forward. If one of the players at the club now is Brown's pick for fullback, they should play there for the rest of the season. If Gaskell is in the plans, he should come back in.'"
I agree with most of that but your rating for Hohaia is way too high.
1/10 is being generous.

| I honestly think Saints have too many journeymen who are stealing a living for Saints to be a quality side again you need to get rid of Wellens (Retire), Shenton(Cas quality & you should have left him there), Wheeler (Salford, Wakey or Widnes quality), Perry (send him home), Flannery (Retire), Clough (Bradford), Maggennis (Hull KR, Wakey London), Foster (Bradford, Hull FC) for me Saints need to build a new team around Roby, Gaskell, Makinson & Lomax Saints need a quality Full Back, they need to throw some good money at Cudjoe, Arundel, Clark & Brough, Kopszcak highly unlikely obviously but those 5 with Roby, Gaskell, Makinson & Lomax then Saints would be a force again.

| As a neutral, I thought Wellens was actually one of your better players. Everyone knows he's slow but at least he runs a decent line and anticipates a pass brilliantly.

| 1 Wellens 4/10 - Made one of our few breaks and he maybe slow but there was no other Saints players backing him up either. Offers himself up to take the ball in when others just can't be bothered. May need replacing at the end of the year but to be totally honest I would not trust Lance to make a better fist of it. Was not good enough for the finch try.
2 Meli 5/10 - As always the same with Meli looks dangerous when the ball is in his hand, but looks dangerous for Saints when defending and the ball is kicked.
3 Shenton 3/10 - Bored of waiting for something like an international performance, he maybe injured but basically it's been 1.5 years of waiting to see something, and to think we shipped out Gilmore.
4 Wheeler 4/10 - a below par performance for Wheeler, first game back but made a few errors, but gets a point more than Shenton as at least he went looking for work.
5 Makinson 7/10 - Good game for him showed what he can do with no service.
6 Hohaia 1/10 - Offers nothing, no kick, no runs, no organising, sorry but a white elephant
7 Lomax 4/10 - Offers himself up unlike Lance but telegraphs that inside pass, defensively culpable today in 1st half.
8 Perry 3/10 - Gave offloads some ok others dodgy but other than that
9 Roby 5/10 - Spotted a few gaps and went for them but no one with him or did not see them.
10 Laffranchi 6/10 - Did what he could
11 Soliola 5/10 - Never got going,
12 Wilkin 4/10 - Anonymous, till about 70 mins
13 Flannery 4/10 -
14 Maggenis 4/10 -
15 LMS 4/10 - had no impact
16 Clough 4/10 - little go forward
17 Flanagan 4/10 - Smashed Lauaki but that was an accident nothing more than that.

| the performance was gutless and sums up the weaknesses in our squad and the mega bad judgement of Simmons during his tenure - we got away with it last season with the kids doing well when required - lets get the kids back and if we go down then at least we go down with some dignity - lets face the truth, the team sent out yesterday was inept and not worthy of wearing the shirt IMO - many of the players are either past it or not good enough at the highest level - rant over.
well done to the other lot btw - they really embarrased us

| Re: Wellens
His chiming into the line on loop-arounds has been one of our main attacking tactics in recent weeks, and it's been succesful. This game, wi*an really did their homework on the move and totally nulified it. As it's Wellens getting caught with the ball, it's him who gets the blame. The really annoying thing is, we just kept trying and trying it with the same failed result. (The only other plan we seemed to have from the line was the predictable simple charge by any player who fancies getting gang-tackled and stopped in their tracks, wasting a tackle in the process)
Of course, the negatives to Wellens' performance is that far from the first time this season, an opposition player has tiptoed around him, leaving Wellens floundering on the floor. We're not talking speed merchants in wide open play, either. Even just a year or two ago, you'd have staked your trousers on Wello cleaning them up.
I know people are narked with the performance yesterday, but lining up to slag off a legendary player nearing the end of his career who's been generally great in recent weeks but who had a bit of a mare yesterday, is both infantile and disrespectful.
