I love to see a winger with pace taking on players down the wing as they are supposed to do ala Martin Offiah, all wingers these days are =#FF0000bleep scared of taking on players down the wing and getting pushed into touch and come inside.

Interesting how in RU is position is deemed to be lock forward.

Whereas at Saints we are playing him on the wing

Seems a tidy size though 6ft 4inches. If he is quick as well that makes ideal wing material.

Bit skinny at mo though being only 13 stone.

However with a couple of years of training should get that upto 15/16 stone and then you have a pacey monster on the wing.

13 st at 6'4" ? thats very thin, i dont like bulking up players alot but he should be able to take a couple of stone easy, usain bolt is about 16 stone after all

I thought he was still only on trial? Great news if he has signed, that'll be our third player contracted in an SL academy if he does. Plus another three on Championship scholarships.

Dan came to us in our first season, 2007, in the merit league. We didn't have a junior set up then, but because we were merit league rather than "proper league" we were allowed to play him. Dan was on Northampton RUs scholarship programme as a second row forward at the time, but with his pace (he was also a county level sprinter) it was pretty clear he should be a winger. Apart from a bit of time at fullback, that's where he's played for us. When we did form juniors in 2008, Dan remained in the open age side. Northampton RU commitments meant we didn't get that many games for us in 2008, but in 2009 he played almost the whole season. Dan scored the try that probably put us out of reach in the Grand Final that year.
As well as his flat out pace, he's got the asset key to modern wingers - being able to jump at kicks in attack and defence. He's 6'4" and a fairly solid lad, great pace and great leaping ability too.

He is still only on trial as far as I know but plays again this weekend.

How is that a bad thing. It means we can actually coach him into being a good rugby player first. Our junior system is doing very well at the moment so a couple of years under Ian Talbot and Mike Rush will do him the world of good.



...and Foster had to be left out of the first team squad in favour of Tom Armstrong for the last year and a half because he was not phyically up to it. Jamies natural position is centre but he is too small to play there as we found out at Salford. Kyle has also had problems with being small which has resulted in him getting squashed several times. I imagine this lad will need to put on a couple of stone before even being considered for the first team.

Dan has been playing for Northampton RL for the past 3 years. He joined us in our debut season and alongside 5 other Northampton players who are at pro RL clubs we are very proud of all 6 of them.

Are you able to bring through other youngsters to replace them? Is there enough interest in the sport there to do that?
