| Im not sure on having mal as our next coach. Is he any better than potter?
His club record at the raiders ain't anything to shout about even tho he has a record winning streak in origin, i just don't think he is right for the job.
I'd like to see us bring in taylor.

| My hope is that Queensland complete a sweep of NSW on Wednesday. That would give Mal, 5 in a row, including a clean sweep, and leave him with nothing to prove in Australia.
He'd then resign from the Queensland role, take the job at Saints, bring a couple of players with him; Lockyer to enjoy a swansong for a couple of years, and Inglis to replace Gidley ......................

He's done a tremendous job with Queensland, 5 Series wins on the trot is unheard of.
He might not be one for X's and O's, but he can surround himself with the technical coaches. And he obviously commands respect and knows how to inspire a team.
A new stadium, the return of a legend after 25 years, St Helens would be buzzing.

Coaching three games a season with a team where if you experience one injury there are four or five players of representative quality to fill in isn't the same as coaching at club level. Queensland have some of the best players in the world and their back line in particular is good enought to beat any other Australian back line, as evidenced by their current dominance of the Origin series.

| I agree with that.
There is so much talent within Queensland, that anyone could get them to beat NSW, especially with the performances NSW have been displaying.

| The next coach needs to have a similar resume to Potter.
eg someone who has a track record in developing young players.
Mal in my opinion is someone who hasnt shown a capacity to develop players in the past.
His record at Canberra was woefull in fact. Tactically people felt he was naieve.
Meninga due to his playing reputation at Saints, would be expected by many fans to crush all before him as coach. Nothing less than the total domination of the League and cup competitions would be expected by these people
When this doesnt happen, then the legend that has grown over the years will be sadly extinguished, and fans dissapointment would result in him being driven out of town as a false prophet.
We have been here before when Murphy coached the club. His signature saw fans treat it like the return of the Mesiah. However 18 months later they were calling for his head.

| Nobody like Meninga is going to an aged and faded st helens !!
Your best hope might be John Kear as saints is one of the few clubs he hasnt bottomed !!
With several ageing players like Cunningham & Wellens, taking Saints at the moment must be a posioned chalice.
Cant even sought out the building of a new ground in time for the new season
The foundations all round seem very unsure, either next season or the year after Saints will be another sorry side just like the Bradford Dulls !!

True. But they'll jump at the chance of a youthful side full of talent, which is exactly the side we will have next year.
You make for a poor troll.

| Eamonn was on GMR earlier and said the interviews are done and the short-list is down to four.
He knows who he wants but all the board need to agree. An announcement will be made at the end of July.

| Just reading the early Aus press and there's increasing speculation that Daniel Anderson may not last too much longer as Eels coach. It's probably just media sensationalism given that they are in a dire run of form and he's had a very public falling out with Jarryd Hayne but you just never know do ya......
Then again, we can dream I suppose

When was the last time you looked at the Saints squad? We may well have one of the youngest (if not the youngest) squads in the league. Yes we have players edging or past 30 but no more so than Leeds, Hull, Warrington & probably Wigan.
As for the stadium, and the new coach situations, I'd rather we took our time and got it right rather than jumping in head first and getting an inferior return for our investment.
Still, people have been predicting the collapse of our club since Millward left and yet through good decisions and sound investment we're still up there in the top 4 every season.
Oh yeah, almost forgot... <mod mode> =#FF0000Stop trolling

Recipe for disaster, Old boys club, Scully is one of the reasons Potter is going.
I am 1 who won't buy a season ticket if that happens, new ground or not. nothing personnal against Purtil or KC, just not right for the job! we would be light years behind in terms of developing new strategies, tactics, methods, look at the impact McClennan and McGuire have made at their respective clubs. IMHO we need a clear out of the fitness regime and backroom staff at Saints, Too many training injuries and comical attention to injuries on the pitch, how they dealt with Arnolds injury at Leeds was pathetic to say the least.

I also agree it would be a disaster, it would be good to promote from the coaching staff but not at this time.
I'd like to see someone like KC or scully being groomed for the job a few years down the line.
