| Quote ="Rogues Gallery"I'd like to keep Goulding or have him go out on loan. Gleeson would be a decent option as Bailey will probably go at the end of the season and Carmont will probably go the season after.
The only other centre we have coming through at present is Ian Thornley but I don't see him being ready for another two or three seasons. (he still qualifies at U18 academy level).
Saints are in a similar position playing Gilmour at centre
I'll have a look at the new recruits on Saturday at Orrell in the U18 academy first game of the season.
I wouldn't like to put Ainscough, Thornley, Tomkins and Goulding in at the same time too soon.
We tried that a few years back with Brown, Aspinwall, Robinson, Wild etc and it didn't work.'"
So a 29 year old Gleeson is a decent option, but a 29 year old Puletua (who is doing very very well I may add), isnt a decent option, which is what you said at the time. Wigan blinkers much?
As for putting all the young kids in at once, it worked against us on good firday a few years back!!!

Puletua will be 30 this year in a team that already has quite a few players over the age of 30 in the squad, and yes he is playing well.
Gleeson will be 29 this year on a team that only has two players in the squad currently over the age of 30.
You can get away with putting all the kids in for the odd game, but not for a long period. We tried it and it didn't work for us.
BTW, what's it got to do with Scott Moore, I don't think he plays for Saints or Wigan?

| Moore is contracted at Saints until the end of 2010 - so in theory we could loan him out for another 12 months afer this and still retain him. However, I think KC will do what is right for the club and step aside and let Moore come in alongside Roby.
The only other possible vision of the future I can see is Long retiring, KC staying and Roby playing at half back for 12 months. Dont think we can justify having all 4 of them on the books next year.

Or Slong and the King could go together? But lets face it on this seasons performances/fitness both could easily do another year at least as neither particularly relies on pace. KC's 'd' is still the most fearsome in the league and Longy doesn't even need to touch the ball to contribute massively due to how well he organises us.

its a tough balance to find....if having them both stay for 12 months meant losing Moore for the rest of his career, I would sacrifice one of them and keep Moore on. If we can keep both, get Moore on a long term contract and then loan him out for another 12 months it would seem to be the ideal situation.

I don't reckon that would do our chances of silverware any good.

might be worth taking a step backwards for the long term good.....gives us 12 months to find a new scrum half (assuming that no-one from the reserves steps up), whilst retaingin Moore and keeping KC on for a bit longer.

I'd have to agree, i think moore looks like the best young english hooker at the moment, i wouldn't want him to go to someone else longterm

| Watching him Friday night and in the other games i've seen him this year he's been outstanding. I'd personally look at giving him a shot in the mid season England team vs France because we're crying out for a sarting hooker that can control a game and get the forwards moving.
As for his long term future at Saints it does look in the balance really. He will surely be looking at moving on if Cunningham doesn't retire and with the way he's playing i can't see that being for another season or 2.
A nice problem to have though i suppose.

www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/paulfletcher ... ynast.html
interview with Wayne Bennett which sums this dilemma up perfectly:
"You have a 20-year-old who is not as good as your 30-year-old pro but you know that he is going to be, he has got all the right attributes, so you take a short-term loss for a long-term gain."

A mistake I think we are very easily in danger of making with the likes of Long and Cunningham.

I suspect if Eastmond hadnt got injured he would have played in a number of games this season.
We certainly need him fit and starting some of the lesser games. As he needs to get another 10 or 15 games under his belt this season, in order to have some experience to handle things when Longy retires.

Sentiment cant come into pro sport if you wanna stay at the top - we cant sustain Cunningham and Moore realistically and if Moore is looking like he will be top class for the next 10 years we need to ensure we keep him. The Top Wigan teams of the early 90's did it with Andy Greg and Ellery Hanley so we might have to do it with KC

I presume that Moore has played more minutes?
I think comparing anyone to KC is harsh he is one of the all time greats, but if you look at Moores stats with the mind he is 20/21 year old hooker playing in a midtable superleague team, he looks very impressive.
I am of a mind now to follow wayne bennetts veiw and get KC as conditioner for next year, Moore to interchange with Robes

Because i am unaware of another hooker at hudds, not that i'm terribly bothered either way, just he is a 10 years (ish) younger so should be playing more minutes

I don't think anyone on here is suggesting he's better than Roby ... it's just that with a few years of 1st team and a man of steel award under his belt we no longer consider him a 'young player'.

fair enough, you can see why a fan from the outsie why someone might class him as a young player. I would still rate houghton as better though, really impressed with that lad everytime i see him.
