| Quote ="saint at wire"As far as I am concerned the fact of the matter was that the Tesco approval was absolutley crucial to the Stadium being a reality. '"
Yes, of course it was. However, the information given was that Tesco were needed to enable the site's development. Would Langtree have allowed the stadium to have been built while leaving the rest of the site derelict? Would such a plan have been passed by the Council? I would suggest the answer to both those questions is no. Tesco are crucial - as indeed are Taylor Wimpey (without the sale of KR, there are no funds for Saints to build) - because they facilitate the development of the whole site, which in turn is necessary for the stadium to be built.

| Quote ="Billinge_Lump"No, I think Tesco will be involved a lot more than other people are saying they are, same as they were with the proposed Everton site in Kirkby. There would be little need for us to jump on the back of them if they weren't, and we're very much the junior partners on the site with parking and location. Why is that the case if all they are providing is the improvements to the infrastructure of the site?
Very few people on here will know exactly what the funding arrangements are, if anyone. They'll have bits and bobs of information cribbed from here and there, but who knows if that is the truth? Most of it will be conjecture. Sadfish, will probably know the fullest picture of the process, but why would McManus tell even him (
) the full story?'"
you are right of course Tesco always stated no cash only a vague "value". As stated on the saints / langrtee stadium web site:
[i Quote Without the development of a retail store on the former United Glass site it would not be financially viable to construct the proposed new stadium.
This is because the retail store would act as an enabling component, facilitating the development of the stadium and associated infrastructure and public realm works.
Furthermore, the relocation of Tesco from its existing site is required for the proposed retail development to proceed at Chalon Way in the town centre.'" [/i
A great piece of managment / PR speak that doesn't actually say very much!
I give up; it looks like no cash but a bit of help with the roadways and drains etc!!
It looks like Dire did a better job of squeezing Tesco's pips than Saints and Everton were able to.

Hasn't the proposed Everton site been rejected by the government?

| Just been on the council stadium site, it looks like plans have been updated, or superseeded it says.
It gives more info, looks like the sports bar is now a cafe bar.

That wasn't through Tesco funding though, the locals didn't want the stadium and the surrounding local councils (St Helens included) didn't want another massive Tesco on their doorsteps.

Thats great Doghaed.
It looks like they have posted the latest plans.
You can see clearly now how things will look and the general layout of the stadium.
Its interesting how every stand has seats , though the two stands behind the sticks have seats only on the front row, presumably these are aimed mainly at helpers of disabled fans, or maybe fans who like to be with the atmosphere but havent got the legs to stand up for 80 minutes.
There are also pics of the various elevations which show extensive use of glass. Hopefully this will make the stadium quite light and not like some concrete bunker.

| Tesco generate the values for the site to be developed. I couldn't see Langtree developing the site without a commercial partner. There would be no financial gain for them. Simple really.

Perhaps one of the biggest complaints from the fans about Warrington's new ground when it opened was that people were too squashed in the standing areas.
This actually lead to the capacity being reduced by the club. From these up-dated drawings Saints have based the terracing upon each person having 0.26/m2. Not sure how this relates to Warrington's stadium.
I know I'd try not to share my 1m2 with three fatties.

If you read through Council stadium site it clearly state's that if the stadium capacity does not reach what was asked for, the developers bond will be call in.
Maximum person allowed to stand in a sports stadium is 47 per 10m2, which works out at .21m2 of space per person, Saints stadium is .26m2, per person, which works out at 38 persons per 10m2.
$hit Ia'm bored.

Thanks for that, i was looking for density info re standing on terraces last night.
I was worried Saints might do what Wire did, and use minimum space, then find their ground didnt hold as many as was designed for.
Hence why wires ground which was built for 14200 only holds 13k.

| Does this mean after opening the ground and testing it out we could find our capacity crowd slightly higher than initially thought or is the 18,000 about right?

Its an interesting thought.
However planning permission is only for stadium no higher than 17984. So i presume we would need to appply for further permission to increase it further.
Considering the two end terraces are each bigger than Wires end terrace, despite more generous capacity calculations at Saints, then i dont think there will be problems with the terraces capacity being grossly inadequate to meet demand.

Not quite that clearly apparently, as the bond is only put in place when they want to open the Tesco store before the stadium is complete. The bond is for the value of the outstanding value of the stadium works and in effect is a "guarantee" for the council that Langtree will finish off the stadium works even though the money generating part of the development is up and running ie if Langtree don't finish the stadium the Council call the bond in and use that money to finish the stadium.

just been messing with some of the figures on the standing area's, there is plenty of leeway even in the figures given on the drawings never mind allowing for the maximum number of person's.
Add 1,800 more people if they one day allow the maximum amount in.

| Looking at the plans do you think the home end will be the west side? I base this on we would be facing the scoreboard in the east stand at the side of the screen in the west (for decisions) and the home dugout is the west dugout? also that would mean we enter at the front of the ground.

You should still be able to see the big screen in the west stand, just as you can see it from the main stand now at Knowsely road, even though its on the same corenr of the ground as the main stand. The key thing will be how far back in the north west corner the screen will be placed, as this will be what influences visibility most.
One thing to note is that fans in the west stand should have no difficulty seeing the scoreboard, which will be there for every match and not just Sky games. Unless Saints plan on having a permanent video board, which i doubt.
Thinking about it, im curious as to whether in the final build things get altered, with the screen infact placed in the North East corner. The reason behind this thinking, is that originally the TV vans were supposed to be parked in the North West corner of the ground, with the associated TV box in the North stand.
TV vans have now been moved to an area behind the East stand, with the TV gantry in the south stand. Therefore it would make more sense to put the video screen up on the north east corner, as this would mean less cabling. infact looking on the st.Helens planning website, the councils own document details TV cabling as a health and safety issue that needs resolving before construction can begin.
In essence they dont want lots of thick cabling trailing across the pavement around the ground and causing a hazard to fans attending the ground. I therefore suspect they will therefore make provision for the cabling to be either ducted under removable covers around the ground, or else hoisted on poles above ground

| What are the plans for playing the reserve and academy games?
The majority of Superleague teams now don't play their academy games on their first team pitches.
Will Saints use LSH Rugby Union pitch?

| The document says the use of the stadium pitch will be for sporting events only and is limited for use by :
St Helens RLFC first, reserve and youth team rugby league fixtures
Other domestic rugby and cup competitions fixtures
St Helens Town FC fixtures
International Rugby fixtures
Whilst these terms go for nearly all pro clubs I couldn't imagine Saints preventing the Reserves/Acedemy playing there unless it conflicts with a SL game with the potential for pitch damage before the main game.I also doubt Saints would be willing to cough up fees to other sports clubs for the use of their pitches to many times.
