think you will find Todd road has gone, the map is wrong, thats the canal towpath, why its called Todd road is a strange one.
Todd road ran down what is now the link road, Matalan to where the new bridge is going.

but yes you can use the towpath. (sorry nowt else to do today)

It was a hive of activity today, especially round the south stand with people rushing to complete the stadium for monday.

The glass frontage has been cleaned so you can see clearly into the building. Here we see what look like movable partitions for the community facility



The finishing touches were being done to the South East turnstile block.
I love the way they are very clearly marked out. There should be no difficulty with fans wondering were they enter the ground from.



The Stairway to Heaven was not fenced off, and already a fellow snapper had taken the opportunity to get a closer look



Yes its a Saintly Crusader from Redvee.net admiring the new stadium. Love the nice touch of having the exit signs painted white with red letters rather than the more familiar green with white letters

Having climbed THE STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN, i was able to get some closer than normal pics of the East stand.

Here we see some pics of the North East corner.

The lorry in the first pic gives you a good idea of the height of the brick wall



in the second pic we can see the scoreboard and the newly installed gates



finally in this pic we see that the roadway linking the North stand car park to the East car parks is quite narrow, though wide enough to get a Tesco lorry down it. This being the route that Tesco deliveries will come into the store.



The east stand car park looks complete. All the lights are in place and its been marked out



Moving over to the North stand

The two turnstile blocks in this stand look complete.

In the background of the first pic you can also see a sign pointing to the seats for numbers 156 to 185



in this second pic you should be able to see one of the bar areas being fitted out.



While we are talking of signage, do you sit in these seats within the North stand?



A big crane was stationed in the North car park, presumably to aid in painting the high level superstructure. However it wasnt doing anything, and while i was there it was packed away.

The North West gates were open, and you could see that all the stairways in the South stand have been painted white so that you can clearly see each step.

As its Bridge fitting time, i decided to get a close look at what was going on

It was eerily quiet due to the lack of traffic on the closed linkway. I therefore decided to get a closer look

Are the gaps above the turnstiles going to be filled in? Otherwise it looks a bit unfinished and naff.

Drove home for the first time in a little while this weekend, down the link way and into town, i passed the Dream, the new offices by Sainbury's Depot, the new stadium complex, massive new college campus and the Beacon on College Street- so proud of our town- what recession?

That was all funded out of the massive national debt. Take a look at the town centre and count the pound shops and charity shops.

Although that's probably more to do with the Council being inept and moving so much retail stuff to the edges of town without first considering that there isn't the population to support both.

Public funds used to build saints stadium, Tesco, and Langtree offices- learn something new everyday. And we've got a pretty good council, as councils go, actually.

You walk down every high-street in Britain you will see empty shop space, St Helens isn't any different- what St H has done is to position itself well for when the economy does begin to grow once more. Investing the public funds we have had in Education.

Ha ha. Public funds were used to cleanse the site, build the bridge and fit the infrastructure, yes. Build the stadium? No. Although the Council is using one of the big rooms for youth work, so they will be contributing something. As for the rest of your list (bar Tesco, which wasn't actually mentioned), public funds paid for the lot.


What a load of tosh. I've just finished spells of work in both Wigan and Warrington and while there are always empty shops in even the most healthy economies, both those towns look to be thriving while ours has long been on the scrap heap. We've just filled Woollies with yet another pound shop. Whoopee. Meanwhile, Warrington fill their empty shops with companies selling sports gear and designer clothing. Get real. St Helens is nothing like the successful economies around us.

But hopefully the stadium will help to bring new investment into the town. The town certainly needs it.

But this is a distraction from the very important business of this thread.

I drove thru Widnes the other day and couldn't believe how much it's changed. They have built alsorts during bad financial times and also looks to be thriving as a town.

However, I'm told Runcorn isn't faring quite as well.

Is the anything in Runcorn?

To be fair, they are having a brand spanking new £600m bridge being built soon

To escape?

That bridge is terrible in the morning and tea time. Both bridges will be toll bridges so it will be a costly escape

Not being funny but the 's would be over that in no time and have all the cabling away in a night.

correct, pointed the same observation out on RedVee, 12 weeks back, coupled with, the disused railway is a magnet for alsorts of scoundrels.

The ground looks fantastic, and looks to be just about complete, but as far as I can tell, there is nothing to identify it as Saints ground from the outside (not counting the Saints on the seats visible from inside the stadium, or in the air!). Are we expecting to have something on the outside, or is this likely to be linked to the ground naming or rites? I would have expected something that clearly identid-fies it as the home of the Saints.

They are going to have to clear out the lowlife who inhabit the wooded copse, near to the linkway and the new pedestrian bridge. Otherwise families walking to the stadium from across the bridge, will get a wonderful high level view of people shooting heroin into their veins.

While they are doing that I think they should create a second pedestrian route to the bridge from along Warrington road, by clearing away the trees that have grown near the link road.
