| For those asking about why would Penrith let him go if he's any good this is my take on it.
Although SL is catching up to the NRL in some areas we are nowhere near their league in terms of half backs, or backs in general. The standard of halves in the NRL far surpasses anything in SL so anyone who's managed to command so many starting caps in the NRL is going to be good at SL level. Look at Dobson and Dureau, both couldn't get a gig in the NRL but teared it up in SL.
I'm not saying any NRL outcast is good enough from SL, far from it, but in terms of halfbacks their fringe players are more than good enough. The NRL have the likes of Cooper Cronk, Daly Cherry-Evans, Shaun Johnson, Chris Sandow, Mitchell Pearch, Scott Prince, Peter Wallace, Liam Foran the list goes on...
We have Matty Smith, Danny Brough, Tim Smith, Michael Dobson, Scott Dureau, Jamie Ellis, Theo Fages, Luke Gale etc...
We simply can not compete in the halves at the minute and that's why Luke Walsh will still be a good signing for any SL team despite the fact he's not a star in the NRL.

| My take on it is that with more intensive games in the NRL there will be a requirement for half backs to be consistent by way of performance and form. This is probably the area he has faltered and lost his regular jersey.
If he comes to Superleague I should imagine he will be under less pressure due to the lower intensity, I reckon he will have more time and space in our comp and to be positive would say he could turn out to be one of the best hailf backs in 2014.
The biggest problem how much time will the supporters give him to settle in before the knives and dud come out.

| He'll be a definite improvement on anything we have around the club now in the halves. He'll also be one of the best in the league too.
Id have him here over dobson and brough any day.

| In world rl he is the best available half back, he will do a good job for us and improve us no end with his organisation and kicking, hopefully the club will confirm this week for 2014 I think they tried to get him asap but it has proved difficult so O'Brien will come in on loan from Wire to tide us over for a month!

I doubt Brown would be saying those things in public if we didn't have him tied up.
I'm quite excited about this signing if/when it comes off, would be great to see a proper 7 in the vee.

Is it still the case that no side with an Australian scrum half has ever won Super League?

Its been a long time since we had a real number 7 with a kicking game, organisation and kicks goals.
Also glad to see that Brown wants props, we are in dire need of two good props.
If Walsh turns out to be good and we get two good props, I think we won't go far short. The is still other postions we could do with but a number 7 and two props need to be priority

Probably.
The kiwis will have a couple - Leulueiu in 2010 and maybe Robbie Paul in 97?
Who played 7 for Wigan in 98? Was it Tony Smith?
Also, wasn't Andrew Dunemann playing for Leeds when they first won it?

Yep, Tony Smith in 98.
Dunneman hasn't played 7 in a Grand Final I don't think.

| Looks to be a decent signing, I would not rave about him, until I've seen him play 10 games in the redvee. As with all signings there is an element of luck and the player needs to settle.
Some signings like Darren Albert and Lyon look inspired, but Perry was of similar quality when we got him. So I think we can expect better from Walsh, but there will be a lot riding on what goes on around him too.
Will he have a running 6, will Lomax keep up his form at FB, Will Roby get another injury and be out for months. Will we have the go forward.
If he comes and kicks and organises well, then there is little more we can expect, the rest is down to the remainder of the team.

You mention the "go forward" that will be a big thing and something we need big time. No point in having a good number 7 if he never gets the ball on the opposition half.
We are in serious need of go forward this year. Its no surprise we look a better side when TP gets his running game sorted. The likes of Walsh, Roby, lomax and hohaia need that front foot that go forward provides.

Given what Brown has come out and said about Walsh I'd say he is 99% signed with only the formalities needing to be finalised before the club will announce it.

They are clearly saving the announcement for the coming weeks:
Lose to Leeds - Announce new contract for Mark Flanagan
Lose to Warrington - Announce cladding start date
Lose to Huddersfield - Announce top NRL scrum half Luke Walsh has signed
The press release to announce Walsh will also include soundbites from McManus and Brown about how we've not given up on this season and expect to reach Old Trafford with the players we have returning. (Despite us being 10th by that stage).

| Just broke Penrith Panthers points in a match record.
11 goals from 11 attempts today. Many of which were from the sideline.
Set up a couple of trys with some top quality kicks including a reverse chip in midfield.
Did note the fact he doesnt take the line on, instead he tends to do a bit of what Bobbie G used to do in that he would tease the defensive line with a few steps towards it, then run sideways a bit before offloading to a runner.
Was vocal calling out plays and also his passing was decent, he could also get good width on his passes in either direction, which is something most British halves still cant do.

New Zealand Warriors, who have only won I think two games this season though they tend to lose their matches in the last 15 minutes, as they did against the Bulldogs last week, as opposed to getting a massive trouncing, SL stylee, as they did today.
