Why would anyone bother drawing up a new contract if they knew the player wasn't going to sign it?

What screwed you up also was some pretty poor recruitment over the years from Australia - Vaeliki, O Neill, Johns, Davico, Ainscough etc all spring to mind. Good recruits can help the afdorementioned names. Those recruited hardly helped.

Davico was very unlucky, Johns and Lam were very good together, but Johns went home for family reasons IIRC his mother was very sick.

But in essence you are correct and maybe we should have kept Dave Furner for a couple more years particularly as we lost all that experience in the pack.

Great pro was Furner and one of the hardest and most physical players I have ever seen.

A great player to have around the club, well respected and a great influence on the younger players. Our loss was certainly Leeds gain.

If he's only out of contract at the end of next year a one year deal is right. He'll be 30 by the end of next season and his form would have to improve a bit for me to be offering him two years from then.
