I know most of the England team and a lot of agents in Yorkshire, not only was Shenton foolish enough after the France game to tell everyone he had signed for Saints, he told a couple of the players what he was after and what he got. You don't have to believe if, and if you don't fine but I'm happy with my information and he is being overpaid, but you have got yourselves a very very good player.

I'm really chuffed with the Shenton signing, let's hope he proves an adequate replacement for Gidley.

I'm happy with this. He might not be as glamourous a signing as Lyon or Gidley, but he's a young, British Centre who has potential to be better than he is (current England international btw). I think he'll slot in nicely and he brings a new lease of life to our backline that hasn't changed in 4 or 5 years now.

I'm not trying to put pressure on the lad but I have feeling he and his wing partner will score alot of tries next year and he'll love playing in our team.

Dead right. It doesn't matter what it says on the contract locked in the safe or who's signed it, if the player changes his mind before the legal deadline the contract's worth nowt.

I can see Shenton developing into a better player than he is at the moment. He will have class players around him and a club with a winning mentality.
His attacking style of play will fit in nicely with the Saints one.

Fantastic news. It would have been rather embarrassing if we'd have been gazumped after all the talk on here. Most importantly, though, some pace at last!

I'm certainly not starting a mexican wave but I hope he reaches his potential and develops into a superstar for us. His best years are in front of him but he does have some pretty big boots to fill.

Shenton looked great in the quad nations final last year till he got injured.

I would say £135,000 is about the going rate for a good young internatinal centre.

I'd imangine so. Gidley was more of a marquee signing, to replace Lyon, than Shenton.

£135k was the going rate a) during the Long/Scully era and b) for an established international centre.

Shenton shouldn't be anywhere near this mark. He kind of got the GB slot by default and he has some way to go before he is one of the first names on the teamsheet.

That's not to say he hasn't got the potential to get close to (or even achieve) this level. He's got talent and the right attitude - and that stands for much.

If we've paid £135k we've paid over the odds. In an ideal world I wouldn't have gone above 85-90k. But we need a good centre (not to mention keeping such AWAY from our immediate competitors) and this is a seller's market.

Good signing. Had a great Quad Nations and is one of the premier British centres going. Good move for him too.
