Short term pain for long term gain.
Im thinking 3 years down the line, not next season.
Also if you dont give the kids their chance, they stagnate and never reach their potential
I think we can afford to take a bit of a hit next season with the loss of Pryce, but be better for it in 2012 due to our young players being more mature and having more experieince.
Put it this way, Saints could compete with the best teams by playing Moore and Wilkin in the halves. This was also with a coach who many Saints fans think was inept.
Surely therefore with some young but high calibre halves, and hopefully a coach who is far better than Potter, then we will easily be challenging for honours.
Very few teams in the uk have decent half combos, i can only think of Wigan and Huddersfield, who look strong in that department for next season.
I know you will point to Leeds and Wire, but Leeds have Mcguire out for half of next season and have recruited a failed English coach. This immediately reduces their threat.
Wire are still reliant on the aging Briers, as Myler has been shown to be nothing more than a support player.

Come on give the lad a break.
He was only aged 19 at the start of the season and was not 20 until half way though.
Plus he had an injury that kept him out for 7 weeks.

That's assuming we can keep them on the field for a decent run. I'd not be too worried if we had (say) Eastmond 7 Lomax 6 and Wheeler 4 if not for the fact that the latter two barely managed a season between them last year. I'm not blaming them as players, but we need to find the route cuase and sort that out before we start making plans to cope without arguably our most dangerous player.

I don't have any exclusive news, just going off what people have said. Plus the fact that he only signed a 1 year deal. He was clearly worth well more than 1 year, so it must be him holding back on signing for longer, one would presume.

He signed 2 yrs, next year is the 2nd year.
When he signed it he'd only played about 7 games at scrumhalf, so a 5 yr deal would have been a huge gamble.

I always thought the 1 year extension was best allround.
It (should have) allowed him to play this year as the outright number seven to check that he could handle the position's responsibility. We knew about his talent, but most of what we had seen was out wide in the centre and filling in for injuries.
His contract extension meant that he'd go through this season without other clubs sniffing around him, prove his true all round ability and then renegotiate his deal around now for a longer term deal based on a more proven worth, meaning a better wage & long contract for him and less of a gamble for us.
That's what I read into it, anyways. I'm not saying union clubs wouldn't be interested, but I'm not sure many of them fancy the gamble these days.

| Union aren't stupid. Eastmond is basically Jason Robinson with ball skills AND he can kick. He'd be mouth wateringly good for them.

He is nothing like Jason Robinson.
For a start he isnt a winger, he is a half back.
Were would Eastmond play in Union?
Fullback, NO
Wing, NO
Centre, POSSIBLY
Halves. DEFINATELY NOT

Im pretty sure jason robinson was a halfback but was placed on the wing as he couldn't get in at halfback.

| anyway, back on topic. Joe Westerman has gone to Hull for a transfer fee of £150k - Pryce is worth more than Westerman, so think we are looking at Bradford stumping up £200k at least for him.

He is very like Jason Robinson. He'd play wherever Robinson played. He'd do the whole fullback standing and kicking thing very well.

which i seriously doubt they have let alone would be willing to spend! you could argue that although leon is better, he's alot older too, but he certanly isnt worth any less IMO
Leon for a final year here then Wheeler/Lomax step up or if they're not up to it, we go shopping
If the bulls somehow do find enough cash then god bless them, £150k ish for a 30 year old player in the final year of his deal is pretty good for us.

thats the wrong price, hes believed to have gone for over 250k and also hes just starting to get his career going, and has bags of potential, where if leon moves "home" then it will most likely be his last move. and as he is coming to the end of his career, will not get near more than westerman cost! however i do think you could be looking at atleast 150k IF he is going.

The other Robinson (England sub) runs like Benny Hill's little bald headed mate, but that does not make him a comedian!! Hang on though, just look at his defence work (not)

| I think the only people that want Leon are Saints and Bulls fans
The only place Leon wants to go is Bradford (or stay at saints)
Westerman was open to all offers and i believe a lot came.
He is young, has won several young player trophies and hot property.
Leon is old, injured and as has been mentioned ,it will be his final move.
I would give a 90 - 130 grand. If bulls are feeling silly could be 150. That is it!

| A lot of the Bradford fans seem to think Leon is nailed on and confirmed to be happening.
They reckon it will be announced before the deadline for £60 season tickets as a push for further sales. Which is 12th November.
