Jon Wilkin often addresses issues that have raised concern among fans. It appears to be one of his off field roles, probably because he is media savvy with good contacts in the business. I saw this article and it reads to me that Gaskell isn't coping too well. It will read to others that he has an attitude problem. How it is interpreted will no doubt be coloured by the reader's degree of sympathy towards Gaskell. That it can be interpreted in a number of ways says a lot about Wilkin's communication skill.

From what I have been told Saints offered higher and due to Gaskells circumstances he asked for lower and 12 was what he was earning by third year.

I'd fined it hard to believe £12,000.

It's just too low. You could do almost any other job and get more than £12k.

You might expect to be on that amount if you were 15-18 and just in the academy, but not playing FT in the SL.

Academy players are payed less than that. Around the £8,000 mark. Believe it or not Saints pay pretty low at academy level.

In all honesty the contract is negotiated by both parties. For a player of that ability to get the security of a three year deal is a bonus for him. I feel he and the club have done the correct thing to part company he was not a long term answer for a top four club

Gaskell wasn't a fully proven pro when saints negotiated his last deal. Also like I say Saints offered more however due to Gaskells circumstances he would be better off with less from the club so the club got a good deal

What he is on is not in dispute. It is what he has been offered that I am talking about. As I said I could have misheard and he has been offered a £12,000 rise as opposed to a £12,000 Salary. I didn't see my mate at the weekend as he is working away but I will see him ASAP to confirm.

Are you serious in your view that Matty Smith and Scott Moore are good enough for a quality Saints team such as the 2006 team which is what we should be aiming for Scott Moore for godness sake get a grip

This is that ridiculous argument again - neither would get in our 2006 team but the players we had then just don't exist anymore and it's pointless to mourn the fact that Saints or other clubs no longer have that quality to call on...

Agreed and Matty Smith is a better than any other 7 we have at the moment. He would walk into our current team, the fact he isn't a patch on Sean Long is irrelevant.
