| Quote ="Tony Stark"I think there's been a combination of thing leading to our improvement over the last two games
i) As Robes said in his post match interview after Royce was sacked the lads had to take a good look in the mirror and admit they were desperately underperforming.
ii) The whole team have hit match fitness including Perry who, whilst still a few pounds over weight for me, has had a good two games.
iii) We've played two of the 'Big 3' and raised our game accordingly.
iv) We've had a largely settled squad/line up with no random chopping and changing for the sake of it.
v) Success and positivity breeds more of the same.
and the big one for me
vi) Urgency. We've not been the sluggish, slow and ruck dominated team we were for the first few weeks, we've been quick in the ruck in attack and defence and our line speed has been massively better than it was, our support running has been excellent too whereas in the opening games we had no options left or right when we broke tackles. Our 'lighter' more athletic pack have helped in this area too.'"
I agree with all this. I think the latter point is part and parcel of revving up as the season gets underway.
Mike Appleton said on Twitter that wasn't it good to see Meli enjoying his rugby again on the wing. Well sure, that's great for Meli, but it is not the best place for him to play. Had Warrington been on their game tonight, or Leeds last weekend, we would have been peppered down that side and much joy would have been had, especially with the daft decision to debut a player on that side against Warrington. I think indulging the senior players will come back to bite us.
Also, we looked fragile at one point in the second half when Warrington actually brought the game to us. We began making mistakes and giving away penalties. So even with Meli happy on the wing we look a long way from the side people are claiming we look like.

| I like rush and KC way of thinking. It's like the old school way of thought. They ain't trying to be to clever with stupid ideas and methods and it's working.
We took josh jones off at just the right time for him and the team.
We are using substitutions better with perry and laffranchci giving us a great starting platform.
They seem very old school and I like it.

To be fair that was always going to happen with them playing on the friday and us on the Sunday. We did look fatigued at that point which could account for the errors, and after getting the slight rub of the green in the first half Thaler was always going to even it out in the second, piggy-backing them up the pitch.
I do agree though we are still a way off our potential best.

We're assuming they are all enjoying their rugby or indeed that they didn't enjoy it previously. Roby looks just the same as he always looks, for example. But he is a true professional and gives it his all in every game. He is one of the few senior players I can still admire. Wello is another one, but he was outstanding for us last season too, as was Robes of course.
Enjoying your rugby isn't enough to win games. Sometimes it's just hard graft that is required, which isn't so enjoyable.

But I don't think a 'senior players must enjoy their rugby' is a very reliable long term approach. Hard work, maintaining concentration, not making daft offloads ... all the boring things in life are what get you the wins. And appeasing one bloke who has leaked tries in every GF so far and who regularly switches off near the goal line throughout the season is not a tactic I agree with or think will be productive in the long term. If I'm proven wrong and Meli has had some kind of revelation then so be it but just now I think the keep the senior players happy regardless philosophy will bite us in the backside.

Likewise against Bradford, for instance, when we were down to 12 men. We didn't concede. Our defence has been improving for a few weeks. We did, however, let in a try on the death (again) and Warrington did rather like messing up their attacking plays near our line, which helped us it has to be said. We were let off quite a few times by their unforced errors.
I made all manner of excuses for us last season because we were a team under pressure of injures with a lot of young players coping under adversity. Now that we have what the Sky guys labelled 'the old guard' back again, there are no excuses.

You have quality players and have the ability to win games when playing poorly .... did you see us under Simmons this year? We'd have lost against Warrington Wizards never mind the wolves a couple of weeks ago.

| Every team we have got points out of this season bar London and KR have come away from the game saying "How did we not beat them today?"
Even Hudds, who i thought we put our best performance of the season in.
I'm not being derogatory towards Saints, we were well beaten tonight but honestly the only difference we have had over Saints so far this season is luck when we didn't deserve it.

Don't be stupid. We lost by a maximum four points and had Puletua been more attentive we would have beaten Bradford. And that was without James Roby, who has made a massive impact on his return, and LMS and Gardner.

I've been to a few of Ade's testimonials this year and in them all the lads asked have said the spirit in the camp has still been good despite the losses, as did Louie when interviewed on Sky post-match.
As I said earlier, winning, and playing well doing so, will always make things better mentally and physically in terms of how the lads play and hold themselves. It's easy to suggest that the change in fortune and performance is down to Royce leaving and Rush & KC taking over but I can guarantee you it is down to more than the change in management.

Honestly you need to get a grip , did you even watch us against Bradford? It was one of the worst performances Ive seen a Saints team put out in a long long time. The performance against Hull was abysmal too. We look like a new team and it's not all down to Roby (despite you and and Sky morons thinking so)

Fans have such short memories.
Remember against Hull in the fog during Potter's time here?
Remember the Grand Final 2007 under Anderson when we were worse than crap?
Teams sometimes play badly. It's not always the coach you know. Sometimes it can - dare I suggest it - actually be the players!

| I mentioned to a saints fan who posted on the bulls forum that saints would win at least 2 of their next 3 games and i was proved right lucky i put an accumulator on it haha.
Think the players didnt want to play for simmons anymore and put in poor performances so he was sacked and now they are playing brilliantly, similar to chelsea did with AVB

You could say that about our errors in the games we lost too.
However, many of Warrington's errors tonight were definitely unforced. Some of them were just down to offloads at dumb times. Leeds were doing the same kind of thing this time last year.
