In all serious though, there are two ways of looking at it, the merchandising and prize money made versus the costs of taking the squad and staff for the weekend to London, including expenses and after match parties meals etc....
I think there is obviously a profit to be made, but perhaps not as much most people would expect.
I don't think prize money has increased in line with the revenue the final makes over the past 10 years either.'"
Unfortunately, we have not made a profit for many a year and in recent years the loss has grown not shrunk.
The latest 2008 accounts show a loss of £449,000 up from £400,000 in 2007. The accounts are held together by a property revaluation of £7M to an £8M value for the ground in 2007; this is the same amount that they have agreed to sell it for but such sale cannot be completed until after the club has actually moved to the new stadium.
Total loans to the club are now over £4.2M however, most relate to directors or shareholders loans and they have agreed not to take these loans out of the company.
I'm just telling it as it is and I hope the directors do try to improve the financial performanace as this shows how 100% important it is for the new stadium to come about as that seems the only hope of transforming the trading position.

Wigan probably lost money on the Leeds fixture.

That is of no consuquence to the OP.
The point of this thread is "how will not getting to Wembley effect our budgets??"
Our yearly accounts have been all over the place in the past few years, sometimes we can win both finals and post a loss as big as when we haven't made a final.
My point is simply that getting to the final is not always as financially positive as some people might think.
If Saints directors and senior management RELY on getting to both finals then they are crazy, as you must budget based on not making the finals.

The Chairman and the CEO often comment on how they don't budget for reaching finals/winning trophy's - The majority of our finances/budgets are structured around known events such as sponsorship deals, season ticket sales and corporate sales........

| Wigan made a profit on the Leeds game our CEO confirmed it at the Fans Forum. Saints made a profit on visits to Wembley, I was told by a director, though they may have made a loss on the financial year.
Although Saints owe £4.2m to directors how is this affected by the share issue a couple of weeks back when they turned debt into shares? Wouldn't this have the effect of reducing the company debts?
The value of KR now stands at £8m, isn't that a bit optimistic given the state of the economy? Although the 2008 figures could have been drawn up prior to the downturn in the economy.
All clubs have to be careful in these economic times and lets hope all survive and in the end all thrive.

It all depends what kind of decline we are discussing. Your thesis seems to be that a likely drop off in on-field success and winning trophies is the same as a financial decline.
Another scenario is that we could not win anything for a few years, but an economic upturn, lucrative sponsorship and new kick-ass stadium facilities will generate loads of money for the club.

The problem with fixed price contracts comes when the economy struggles - If the firm involved cant afford to go ahead at the fixed price what can you do? two options - 1. try to enforce the contract and company will just go into receivership. 2. Wait and ride out the economic storm.....either way, it is a potential issue in the medium/short term.

| you can see the hope in the pies hearts that not getting to Wembley will hit Saints hard and cause the new stadium construction to fail.
They have of course not mentioned the losses their club continues to rack up on a smaller turnover than Saints despite having supposedly larger crowds.

Nor have they mentioned that our average attendance is roughly 1,000 up on last year which equates to something in the order of an extra £225,000 over the course of the season.

Taylor Wimpey have been squealing about the £8 million given that the value of KR has gone down due to the credit crunch. However, that's the deal and so far as I'm aware, we're sticking to it. After all, what would happen if the value rose above the £8 million? Would Saints be allowed to re-write the contract? Nope!
Everyone knows Taylor Wimpey sailed close to the belly up wind during the early part of this year. I think their troubles were the likely cause of the delays to the work starting, though that's pure speculation on my part. Either way, since things are now looking a little brighter on the housing and stock market side of life, perhaps by the time the show gets on the road the purchase of KR will once again look like a tasty morsel of profit to Taylor Wimpey.
We can but hope, anyway.

In terms of the town, its position is the most important thing. Walking distance of the town centre. Local pubs eyes must have filled with £ when they heard of the positioning.

Of course, they'll swear blind that they want to see Saints get a new stadium 'for the good of the game' though.
The thing is, for many fans, during our period of dominance, all they have had to cling to is our financial situation or allegations of tax loopholes, salary cap breaches and cheating. It has been their silver lining.
