| Lets not jump into a pit, we are doing better than last season and we got to the GF there.
We have not seen the match and so have no idea how lance and lomax played, we have no idea about our kicking game, who made the tries? From the score the attack did not seam to be suffering, it was all defence defence defence.
Lets not pretend we are not Saints, we always get results like this were we forget to defend.

| A bit of a disaster today all in. To lose 36 points to a HKR team missing a lot of players is unforgivable. We need to seriously work on defence. The team is capable of great defence as the second play off second half against Wigan last season showed.
Sounds like we have a few problems from what the other posters are saying. I was never convinced by the Lance signing. Not that anybody could be blamed for this but if we had had the foresight to see how Gaskell, Lomax, Wheeler and Makinson have developed I am pretty sure we would never have got him, especially on a four year deal. The money should have been used on buying a replacement for Jammer. Unfortunately we are where we are and we are just going to have to run with it
As I have said time and again on here, when Gaskell does not play we really miss him, and for me should be one of the first names on the teamsheet.
All in all we have to be happy with a point because it could have and probably should have been a whole lot worse.

| Not going to go into full knee-jerk mode after a draw at a place we usually lose in the middle of February. Defense was obviously shocking, but it is 4/5 months before that will start to matter as many teams have shown before. If it is still so bad then I'll start to panic.
If memory serves me right, I remember when we lost about 4 in a row early season under Anderson culminating in getting tonked away at Castleford in the snow. It was absolutely freezing and I was fuming, but we won the Challenge cup and made the Grand Final so lesson learned.

| Did anyone who has commented actually go, do we know for certain we missed gaskell???
I'm a huge Gaskell fan, but I don't think he could have done much about our defense and with out eye witness reports the radio is not enough to go on.

| Both sides played sum good rugby but also sum defensive shockers, really we were lucky to get the 1 point as a rule foster doesn't miss the goals he did today, Ano we have a few players out injured but the players we have to replace them did us proud today, I think a draw was a fair result to be honest and it was a cracking Game.

| According to 'Official St.Helens RLFC' on facebook, Hohaia was playing class and I know he set up a try for Flannery. All I can say on that really.

| To be fair, Rovers didnt appear to miss Dobson and Green as much as we normally would because our forwards totally dominated yours. If I was a Saints fan I wouldn't be so bothered about who is playing fb or so and worry about where your go-forward is going to come from other than Roby.
I've never seen a weaker Saints pack.

| That's the worst defence from a Saints side I've seen in a long time. I'm disserpointed, thought you were there for the taking and considering we ended up playing with our 4th and 5th choice half backs, we cut you open quite easily. God knows how much we'd of beaten you by if we had a fully fit squad. I'd be worried, if I were a saints fan. Play like that for the majority of the season, then expect to win nothing.

| We kept Roby pretty quiet.
Wilkin, Flannery and Soliola were disappointing too, and as for Perry, he was rubbish.
I thought Saints looked very dangerous with the ball, but your defending was lacking today, as was ours at times.
Sky have messed up today though, they could have had our end to end cracker on, instead were stuck watching Dull and Broncos struggling.

| Sounded like a distinctly unimpressive performance. However, despite being in need of a shake up, we've picked up five points from an available 6. Not a bad return at all, especially since one of those games has been at a ground where we always get beaten, and also since we traditionally start slowly.
I just hope Gaskell is in the side for this tough run-in we have coming up.

| As a HKR Fan I thought our forwards were always on top until the last 5 minutes. The worrying thing from a saints perspective is that it seemed everytime we went down your end of the field, we scored.
One of the most entertaining games i've seen at Craven Park for a long time. That game should have been on Sky not Hull V London played at the library.

I'd agree with you, it's a weak pack and Royce hasn't got the balance right in the pack. I got bagged on here for calling our pack weak long before the season started.
Ill say what I said before the season started and I'll stick by what I said....
LMS isnt good enough to be a first choice prop, decent squad/bench player but IMO not good enough for a team looking to win things.
Perry- injuries have caught up with him, he's sluggish, slow and drops of tackles due to lack of fitness. Shame as he was good player before he signed.
TP is a good powerful prop but misses jammer who carried him for work rate.
Clough is a average prop and only good enough as back up.
Laffranchci - feel sorry for him, he's been put in a impossible postion of replacing jammer and hes not a prop. Solid enough but thats all.
Flannery = crap
SiA- been our best forward this year and playing his best rugby in saints shirt.
Wilkin - I thought he was top class last year and back to his old self but struggling now in a beaten pack.

I've not been today so can't comment on the performance but we look like a side still settling into the season, judging on what I saw in the previous two games. I'm not overly concerned as there is a long way to go and I think once the season settles and the players get some games under their belts we'll see improvement.

| Highest ever score draw in Super League!!!
I predicted us to score no more than 10pts against a what appeared to be first choice 17 from Saints. Would have taken a point at the start of the game but come the end of the game I walked away from the ground disappointed!
Defence on both sides needs to improve and with us playing Warrington next week it could be a big score!

I'm starting to agree mate. We look awful. We look like a team with no coach. No moves, no game plan, no structure in defence.
And with his strange recruitment of signing players and playing them in positions they don't play is even worrying.

| Would also advise Simmons to not send players out to try and get on the wrong side of some of the opposition. Wilkin was clearly sent out with instructions to get under the skin of Mickey Paea. It didn't work and took away from what a very good player Wilkin can be.

| Some vast over-reactions as usual from some of our fans at this early part of the season, I've learnt to expect that though. I'd rather hear from those that have been to the game today for a real judgement on our performance in today's game too.
I'll take the 5 points from a possible 6 though at this stage, even if we're earning them the hard way, I'll be more concerned if we're under-performing at the end of the season when it matters, you win nothing by peaking in the first month.

I understand what your saying but its the fact we look awful at the moment. We've basically been rubbish against Widnes, London, Salford and hull kr. It makes me wonder if we've actually done any work on defence in pre season and if we've worked on set plays, moves or game plans.
Warrington and Wigan would have put at least 30 points on that hull kr side today and both would have put cricket scores on the other two teams we've played.
We ain't asking for us to peak at this stage but for gods sake at least show we are a suppose to be a top team.

| But you haven't lost this season have you? Ok you got lucky with that today but you played to the last seconds of extra time and came out of it with a point. As said it is better to have 5pts out of 6 at this stage of the season.

Whilst I didn't go today, I think the obvious fact that Wello is playing his first game of the season on the back of a return from injury would be a factor.
I don't think it was a simple case of Tommy getting dropped, more a case of giving Wello a game to help get his match fitness back in the same way that Royce has done with several other players thus far this season.
It's great that we can do that this year given the depth of un-injured players we have in the squad, especially if it means we can keep the squad fresh.

Either of those sides on top form would have done, but as it happens Wigan have already been spanked at home by a depleted Huddersfield and Warrington have also drawn an away match on Humberside. There's always a degree of rustiness at the start of the season, and that applies to everyone.
There's no doubt that there's a lot of work to be done, but we're equal top of the league after three matches (two of them away from home). That's not a bad place to be.
