I was at the shop earlier and theres insulation everywhere, hope langtree provided a good guarantee as this is hardly a mega storm, just a tad windy

A tad windy? Where were you between 7.30am and 8.00am this morning? It was a fookin hurricane in St Helens with monsoon rain!

thats just it though, its only gusting to about 50 mph, which a stadium should be able to take, if it was around 80 mph id understand but this sort of weather happens a couple of times a year, every year and KR took it ok for over 100 yrs

I'd be very surprised if this morning's gusts, and indeed those of about half an hour ago, were only 50mph. This morning was ridiculous. No visibility at all thanks to the horizontal lashing rain. Twice I ended up in the wrong lane/wrong side of the road because I just couldn't see anything in front of me. It was one of the scariest journeys into work that I have done and there have been a few scary ones over the last couple of years!

No they were there for the old side cladding that has been removed and likewise the posts will be removed once the new roof is complete.

Perhaps once removed we should send them to St Helens for them to use to hold the roof down.

Having looked on various weather and wind observation sites it would seem the winds this morning would have been 60mph tops. Which is pretty windy and rain will make it look a lot worse, but the stadium should still be able to withstand that sort of wind imo. Hopefully it can be solved easily enough but if its a design flaw things could get messy. How many other buildings have been damaged to such an extent?...

Has planning permission been granted for the cladding of the remainder of the ground. It's just that I was speaking to someone (who should know) last week and he said that it hadn't been approved yet.

Gusts of 70mph recorded this morning in the St Helens area according to local news.

Rogues - the planning permission was granted a few weeks before Christmas. It's on the Council website for you to look at if you care to confirm for yourself.

Your new stadium is actually quite sheltered, so I strongly doubt that, even if 70mph winds were recorded in the St Helens area, that the stadium saw such.

Just read thru this thread and I have to agree, I'm a little worried that the wind as caused this amount of damage.

I was out in the wind this morning and it was windy But I'm shocked that the stadium has been damaged. What happens if it gets windy while we are in the stadium?

I did. With my lights on (including fog lamps) so that I could be seen. I was reminded of 2009 when we had the same kind of weather and I had to do exactly the same thing only I was somewhere near Wigan at the time which made the experience extra scary.

Er, no it's not. At least the south side of it isn't. There is a great big open space from the stadium up to God knows where on the south side. And it's the south side which has suffered damage.

Time to wake up and smell the bacon SaintsFan, Langtree Park is POOR. The mear fact that they realised after the thing was built, that they have to add additional bits, is the first sign. Now the roof falling in, when there's no damage to the industrial units (built out of corrogated steel/alloy)... Regardless of GUST speed, a building should be designed to withstand SUSTAINED wind-speed. If that's what happens at a gust of 60mph (common in the UK) then god knows what would happen if we had a sustained 60mph.

Beaufort Wind Scale Lists 55–63 mph as a "Storm" or "Whole Gale" which is described as: "Trees are broken off or uprooted, saplings bent and deformed. Poorly attached asphalt shingles and shingles in poor condition peel off roofs."

Again, this is SUSTAINED wind-speeds, and not GUSTS.

If they 'should know' then they would know that it has been approved.

Just been on the news for what its worth, strongest gust in the area was 73 mph while it was 50 mph in built up Manchester. Stadium just been shown.
