It's a decent signing, not an amazing one. If he sticks to second row he is pretty good and can occasionally have an absolute blinder. He's probably still the most athletic second rower in the competition, capable of making a break and running it in from the half way line, which almost no other second rowers could dream of.

You will though have to put up with his comedy glass jaw. He is knocked out cold at least once per game and sometimes three or four.

i think we'd end up playing him in the centres though, unless newton becomes a full time prop, and gilmour going in the 2nd row with galea

We are going to be so lightweight next year in our pack! We will also have no depth at all.

We struggle at Salford with 4 missing we can't afford to lose anymore players.

He doesn't much like the centre position, though he plays it when called upon. He prefers second row and is good there. I personally hope he stays with us for another year but who knows what will happen. I never know who is playing for Saints from one week to the next at present, much less next season.

Yes it up at end of year. I hear he wants 2 years but we only want to give him 1 year.

Y'know, Saints should make that their tagline, we're using it so often at present.

Like with longy, its very difficult. Out of the two gilmour, IMO, is worth a two year deal more.

I'd prefer to keep him, but not on break-the-bank terms. If we let him go and let kids like Ashurst pick up the slack we'll clearly have to take a short term loss on the chin for long term gain.

I think we're fine in the back row; it's at prop where we're light.

Without Gilmour we still have four experienced back rowers (Wilkin, Flannery, Clough, Puletua) and two youngsters in Dixon and Ashurst who are highly rated and have seen first team action.

Compare that with our situation at prop, where next season we will only have Graham and Fa'asavalu who are IMO of the required quality to be regularly in the 17.

If letting Gilmour go means we can afford to bring in a quality prop then I'd be all for it.

And to answer the op's question - it would be a top signing for HKR, provided you used him in the pack.

We certainly can't afford to enter next season with only two props. It's suicide. To be in with a shout of winning SL you need FIVE. I'm willing to take a punt on one of the kids or Hargreaves, but only as the fifth prop. So where are the other two coming from?

IMO tony p is better at prop as he makes good meters, good offloads, he massive and it gets him more involved.

I think gilmour will be huge loss. Bigger than what people think.

I'd like saints keep gilmour and bring in at least 1 prop to join jammer, tony p, maurie and bryn as our 1st team props.

I also think we could do with a tackle breaking back row who can do something with ball in hand. Our pack don't have a fast tackle breaking forward.

The backs should do fine next year though IMO.

I think Tony was brought in as a back rower, and that's where I'd like him to stay. A big, destructive 2nd row is something we've lacked for a long time, and that's precisely what he is. In fact - you describe him in your own post:

Yes I'd go with that but if we keep tony p in backrow I'd like us to bring in 2 props. We have jammer and maurie who IMO are the only 2 props good enough.

Bryn is ok as back up but to compete at top level next year I'd say we defo need 2 props.

Are there any british props available next year?
I know Paul King is prob leaving Hull, but I don't reckon he's any great shakes.
