He seems to be bearing the brunt of something that is a bit blown out of proportion. His media profile has obviously not helped him.

Isn't he in politics now? I'd vote for him!

He seems to have the right sort of private life for it.

How many more scandals such as this will it take to convince people the Australians aren't the uber-pros they are made out to be?

Last night's episode of the Footy Show covered this quite extensively and it does seem like the aussies are starting to see this, and are looking for the incident and current coverage/outfall to be used as an ideal point to draw a definitive line in the sand and say 'no more'.

Unfortunately it seems Matty Johns, though not entirely innocent in the whole mess, is being used as a scapegoat for every incident and misdemeaner by players from the past decade+. And so it seems its not just his Footy Show career thats over but his career as a media personality on the whole.

the only thing Matthew Johns did 'wrong' was sleep with a slapper while he was married which tbh alot of people do. As he had already sorted this out with his wife I really dont see the point in all this being dragged up, they should just let him and his family get on with there lives.

It is morally wrong though, and he has seemingly shown absolutely no remorse and questioned how the girl is. (That is only from what i have read, i haven't watched the footy show)

Indeed. He's been involved in something a bit sordid, but nothing illegal; there doesn't seem to be any reason to believe that the woman involved wasn't fully consenting. Obviously it's harsh on his wife, but that's between him and her. He is clearly the latest and most high profile victim of the bizarre moral crusade that the Aussie press seem to be engaged in.

there is no reason to ask how she is, she consented to sex with a load of Rugby players so basically thats her call. Like Dux says it is between him and his wife and I would imagine he showed plenty of remorse there. From what I have read he has shown regret in the media which tbh should be enough , no reason for his employers to get involved imo as long as he is doing his job properly.

Why sex between consenting adults, thats all it was. Did she ask how he was?

As you all know on here I am someone who normally has very strong opinions on things.

This one I'm finding difficult. I watched the footy show last night and have never seen Gus Gould in such a state, he was in tears.

It looks as though Matty Johns has been "hung out to dry" by the media, Channel 9 and his former "team mates"

Why wait for seven years before resurrecting the story?

It would appear that Johns is "carrying the can" for a lot of what has been going on off the field in the NRL. For those who have not been to Australia, the NRL players are very much the soccer Premiership players over here (but without the fat wage packets)

One thing that was discussed last night was that the players will have to "keep away" from the fans and associated nightlife.

I find that difficult, because, one of the great things about our game is the approachability of our players (from all clubs) I don't know how all this will end up.

My wife watched the programme with me last night and her views were slightly different (surprise, surprise)

1) He was married, and shouldn't have had sex with the young girl

2) Why did all the other players get involved?

3) Why have they not come forward?

4) Was there actual consent?

5) Was the girl fully reasoned (I'm trying to find the right words without being disrespectful)

In many ways I feel sorry for Matty Johns, one bad night and a career ruined. It must be even more difficult for his wife and family, and the girl involved.

How many of us have not made mistakes in our lives?

Reminds me of the incident involving (i think) Leicester City players when they got into Europe. Pulled a few girls, did the deed with consent, then at a later date, the girls realised they could probably make some wedge out of it at someone else's expense and changed their story.

Time to get out the permission slips before climbing into bed with someone, me thinks.

I don't see it as 'morally wrong' as Conroy states. If she wants 6 players getting involved in her, thats her choice.

What I struggle with is this womans need to cash in now while the questions over the drink culture exist. It will lead to players losing a lot of their freedom.

I feel sorry for Matt. He was big enough to own up to his wife 7 years ago and they worked together to make things right between them. Now, 7 years later, someone wants to cash in and he loses his career and will have to work on his relationship again.

Right....living in Australia ive seen all this from the start to where we are now...so here goes!

The woman in question was bragging about her exploits to numerous hotel staff for up to 6 days after the event, at no time during her stay in the hotel did she show she was distressed in any way.

If...and thats a big if....she didnt do this to cash in, then prove it, give the money to a charity for abused women...that way she is giving back to the people she is supposidly creating this awarness for!

She has just cashed in on Matty Johns becuase he is the one worth the money, the fact that one of the players still plays for west tigers has not even occured to her!

She started as the victim, but slowly people are begining to realise that she willing took part in all of this, and is basically just after the money.

I can see why channel 9 have taken him off the air, but, the must realise after mattys interview the other night that it will teach kids more of a lesson seeing that rather then not having him on the TV.

Don't think she went back to their room to play tiddly winks. She knew what was going to happen and was consentual with it. Don't see a problem myself, just another tart after a nice payday.

I'm not too sure about the consent thing myself. Who's word do we have that she consented? Errrr well.... the players involved in the incident. To quote a famous line from a previous scandal "He would say that wouldn't he?" They're hardly likely to stand up and say they raped her are they, particularly given that they aren't even prepared to admit who they are.

A lad I went to school with had a similar situation in the past. A girl consented at a party while they were both drunk, he went up did the business, and then slipped off in the morning.

She woke up wracked with regret and cried rape.
