I normally reserve judgement for a while when the new kits come out, as they always take a little getting used to. But I must say these strike me as a couple of rotters.

| I never like the kits where the "V" doesn't reach the shoulders in some way, so not keen on the home one. The away one is meh.

| Misses is made up she's saved 100 pound. Awful kits.cheap and tacky just like last years.
I recently bought the manly, St George and Roosters jerseys plus south's shorts all for £70 in the clearance. Yes last years but quality is fantastic.

Thing is, the NRL ones in won't be much (if at all) different to the ones, except for sponsors probably/ Why SL teams try to change their shirts so drastically every year I will never know

| Home kit is truly horrific. FFS stop looking for ways to innovate with the red vee design, just don't use it for once!
We should have had a single hoop this year, can someone knock up a photoshop of this years kit with a single red band? Then we could go back to a traditional, proper vee design. Like everything with the club these days, the kit is just boring. I just wish the club had someone involved in it that was prepared to think outside the box and stop looking for so many generic boxes to tick.
The away kit? What I think happened was they were doing the design and chose the colour. They laughed so much at the outcome that they forgot to apply the design template to it and sent it over blank. Saints lapped it up and O'Neils went with it a it'll be cheaper to make. Somehow, I don't know how, I find myself drawn to it. I'll probably get one of those to use as pyjamas.

| The Meninga link they are promoting on the website then? What similarity is there between the two? Other than the kit having some form of vee design and both having red and white I can't see the link. The Meninga kit had solid red sleeves did it not. The vee also didn't point directly to the nether regions and was half a foot higher and much shallower.

| I went to our fans forum last night and saw our kits and they are pretty decent especially the away kit.... I saw your away kit and I agree its bl***y awful. Our away kit is Black and Red going back to the original shirt from the clubs beginning.

| I don't think the club jersey should ever change. By doing so you are only diluting the brand.
By not changing I realise the club would lose a valuable income stream - but that's why you pay big money to the marketing department to find alternatives.

We've only had the vee since what the late 60s? Historically, the vee has little to do with the club. There is more than enough scope for a single red hoop shirt, particularly with a retro club badge. Easily marketed as a vintage shirt. It would cause a huge controversy and get people talking. Some would love it, some would consider it sacrilege. I can't imagine this year's kit selling well. It'll do alright with Christmas and the sheep fans that buy every kit regardless of whether they like it.

The away shirt should be the one they experiment with, as you say, home should stay pretty much the same every year to keep the brand recognition.

This is a club jersey representing the town of St. Helens and its heritage. It is not a fashion statement.

Think they have designed the home shirt for all the fans with a big belly, you will be able to see your own personalised red vee as you walk along.

You are wrong there. It is a primary commercial opportunity for the club. The shirts should be interesting enough to ensure good sales, this years unfortunately aren't going to. I've yet to find anyone who has said they like the shirts and that won't translate well into sales.
The commercial aspects of the club still seem to be underperforming to me. We're still not showing healthy profits despite the improvement since the ground move. With the cap where it is, Saints should be posting big profits, quite a few other clubs are.

Shirt sales are only a revenue stream because we chose to follow the trends set by others. Besides, it's not as though people would stop buying if the home kit (at the very least) remained fixed. New fans arrive, old shirts become worn out etc.
As I said - you pay marketing gurus good money to come up with ideas - not stick with old ones.

Saints have just announced sales now exceeding last years launch, so maybe we on here are very much a minority with the real world.

Agree in some ways, I always thought we should have kept the town's coat of arms, instead of the saint figure.
