| Alan Prescott after THAT test match.
1958 - Great Britain defeat Australia 25-18 in the second test match at Brisbane with only eight fit players on the pitch. Captain Alan Prescott plays for 77 minutes with a broken arm and match becomes known as ‘Prescott’s Match’

That's like giving Osama Bin Laden a Nobel peace prize.
Ridiculous idea, but hopefully it was tongue in cheek.

| It would have to be either Shaun Edwards or Andy Gregory.
Probably Edwards for his 11 Challenge cup Final appearances.

| What about Eric Ashton.
A one club man as a player and the first man ever to captain a side to two consecutive Wembley Cup Final wins.
(Personally I'd still go with Edwards)

| Don Fox on his knees was mentioned on the Wigan board I think and would be a good idea, one of the most iconic images of the Challenge Cup Final.
I hate him as much as the next man but could deny that this is one of the most enduring images too and would make an inspirational statue:
Beyond that I don't feel it should be a 'great player' from history like Edwards, Gregory, Long etc. because they just polarise opinion too greatly between rival fans. It should be a statue that all RL fans can be proud of - even if it is a generic, faceless team or player celebrating with the Cup.

| I would agree with the suggestion of Eric Ashton. I think he is the only man to "win" the Challenge Cup as player-captain, coach and chairman. Also, he is widely respected and free from controversy.
Less free from controversy but undoubtedly widely respected would be Alex Murphy who has captained 3 different teams to Challenge Cup success.

| Clive Sullivan the last man to Captain us to the World Cup and the first Black man to Captain any British National team IIRC
[urlhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clive_Sullivan[/url
[urlhttp://www.100greatblackbritons.com/bios/clive_sullivan.htm[/url
[urlhttp://www.hullhistorycentre.org.uk/HistoryCentre/our_collections/hull_people/clive_sullivan.aspx[/url
the man born in wales has RL written all over him
"Clive Sullivan was born on the 9th April 1943 in Splott, Cardiff. He started playing rugby after being introduced to the game at school and won selection for Cardiff schools once, but any further progress was halted by a leg injury at the age of 14. Doctors told him he may never walk properly, let alone play active sport again"

| Sullivan is a good shout and I dont think anyone could object too strongly to him. Obviously being slightly biased here, but how about John Holmes?

I'd go for this. It has to be something memorable and lifting the first cup at Wembley is about as memorable as it gets. Edwards never won a Lance Todd so giving him a statue would be like giving Phil Neal a statue outside Anfield. If they don't go for Sullivan then I think you have to do what the Australians have done with the NRL trophy and go for a memorable image e.g. Henderson Gill's smile, Fox's collapse after the kick, Murphy kicking a drop goal, Len Killeen setting up to kick etc.
They could even go for a huge statue of the Challenge Cup itself seeing how beautiful a trophy it is.

He could be in his ripped jeans and vest combo that he wore in the LT line up the other year.
