Why do people fall for these charades?

It's all about money.

I just hope both clubs are honest and upfront and admit that there won't be a first teamer on show so none of the public are conned into paying a ridiculous price for eighty minutes of unimportant tedium.

I doubt most people expect there to be first teamers playing, I see it as an enjoyable way to fill an afternoon a few days after Christmas getting a rugby fix.

I don't expect there to be many first team players out, I don't expect it to be the greatest rugby ever!

When Wigan played at Warrington on 5th Jan Wigan put out a mix of first team and reserve players but the vast majority were from the 25 man first team squad.
Anyway you go and watch the fussball and leave us Rugby League fans to have a few beers and enjoy a game.

either be up front about it and name the teams well in advance, or charge academy team prices. I would probably go and watch the young lads if it was £5, but no doubt they will charge full first team prices.

I'll see what the weathers like and what the teams look like. If were playing fringe and reserve/academy players I might just give it a miss cos I dont fancy paying full price to watch a reserve game.

The charge should be £10, and £5 for concessions. That to me would be reasonable.

£5 at the very most for waht will be a poor game between 2 sets of young lads who would rather be elsewhere.

Yes, but against Wigan? How many times are we going to play them next season then, with a friendly thrown in? It'll just kill off the whole derby thing if we play them four times again, which is possible with a friendly and if we both get to the playoffs.

A good dose of rugby will go down nicely, but why can't it be against someone other than Wigan. We've been playing them too often. We couldn't get anywhere near sellout for the playoffs.

What tradition? We played Widnes for our friendlies last time out and I think Anderson didn't do friendlies, did he? Not tradition anymore. Just yet another game against Wigan. I was looking forward to a friendly or two before the season starts but not another game against Wigan. We're overdoing it IMO.

just because it hasn't been played for a few years doesn't erase 100yrs of christmas derbies against wigan
