Interesting debate between Dave Woods and John Kear about the Lyon or Gidley situation.

Woods referred to the Pig Bortherer as a "legend" in many fans eyes. This is a great stretch of the imagination in my eyes. Kear pointed out that Gidley was in his eyes a better player.

But. The decision is laid bare for you. Lyon or Gidley? Who would you choose if you had to choose one.

This goes to show how spoilt we have been in the past few years for our centres.

It's like comparing a Porsche with a Jag.

Lyon, purely because of age. Very, very hard decision.

Although, i feel Lyon has a bit more pace also.

For the complete package i'd prefer Gidders/Glacier.

Lyon as good as he is has been put on this pedestal that really is a tad higher than it should be. Gidley does the hard work,better!

I think, I'd go with Gidley.

As much as I loved JL, Gidley is more of a wingers centre. If we had Gidley at the age JL was, I guess we'd all be sitting here Gidley.

9/10 they would both either score or their winger would score. Also think that Gidleys defence is better than JL.

Wow. Its hard to look past the outrageuos natural talent that Lyon had, he had more ability to do something unbelievable out of nothing.

When you sit back and look for consistant contribution, though, that's when gidders claws it back.

Lyon is on a pedelstall and tbh, in the past, I've struggled to decide who I'd rather have from his time at Saints, him or Iro. Now I've got Gidders as well - jeez we're spoilt.

Can we add Iro to the vote, please ski??

i went for gidley, purley for defensive effort. Lyon is now older and wiser, so his defence has probably improved, and he can kick too which we desperately need. Its an impossible yet brilliant choice to have to make. Would wigan pick vialeki or bailey????

i went for lyon cos of his age but it makes you think, gidly has won me over he is a great player defence and attack, i can see why lyon copied his style of play

Jamie Lyon for me, just. The only thing that JL has over Gidley is his goal kicking, oh & can also fill in at 6.

Gidley for now, but I'd want Lyon in the future when Gidley retires.

I was going to abstain, though on second thoughts, Lyon's goal kicking sees him get the nod off me.

I'd like to have seen Gidley at the age of 23 to truly compare the two.

Both outstanding players.

Gidley is fantastic but Lyon is faster, scored more trys, could score from long range from nothing, provided every bit as good a service to his winger, could kick goals, better tactical kicking in regular play and every bit a good a defender as Gidley.

We have been spoilt.

Could we not have Gidley on the right and Lyon on the left ?

i suggested this when gidley arrived, the timing is a little late now, and the other teams would take their ball home anyway

Overall I'd have to go for Lyon based on his goal-kicking ability, otherwise they are dead level.

Its the age thing. They are both fantastic players and would be first on the team sheet for every game but if i had to choose it would be Lyon cos hes the younger.

I think Gidley is the most clinical player I have seen at . When he and Gardner are 2 on 2 against the defence in the attacking 25 - it is almost always a try.

Lyon on the other hand had similar sorts of skills to Gidley but with more pace and a touch of magic. He was much more dangerous from further out, and come up with some mind boggling moves and passes.

I wouldn't really like to choose, but I think Lyon edges it. Seems unfair comparing though, we have been very lucky to get both players. A pleasure to watch!

I think you have pretty much cracked it. With Lyon, he was a bit more of an individual, a line breaker, he could go through and score. Gidley is a wingers wet dream, his ability to draw in the opposition winger to give his wingman free space is without peers in SL. Conversely, you wouldn't expect to break through the defence and scorew from distance.

I'd say Gidley just.

Just for his all round play.

The amount of tries he's made and scored, unbelivable.

Nothing in it. By far and away the best two centres that have graced super league.

Imagine both players in the same team.
