You could tell from a number of factors.

For a start he wasnt kicking the ball, secondly he wasnt running with the ball. The first time he did actually run with it he did his ankle and that was that.

I personally would rest him for the next few weeks to let the ankle fully recover. He clearly needs another couple of weeks rehabilitation.
