| I posted a thread on here last year bemoaning the fact that we were about to reach another Grand Final. Whilst I generally love the occasion, seeing Saints put in an abstract performance and lose to a team with more heart and desire is getting a bit samey. I know walking away from OT last year there were several Saints fans giving it the 'never again' promises. If it happens again and we lose in the Grand Final, I'll bet it would push a few thousand over the edge.
I'll admit, unless it's a final against Catalans or Hull I don't want us to get there.

| I missed last year as I was on my Honeymoon.
After watching the match on SLY+, I texted the following to Dux
"They don't make it any easier for us, do they.."
To which he replied
"No; they certainly don't."
But, I'm afraid Buddy, you've got to be in it to win it. We went years winning practically every final we got to, I think it spoilt some of us. Swings and roundabout have meant we've had it the opposite way of late.
If we ever do manage to win another final I would hope that the euphoria will be similar to what I felt in the stands at Wembley in '96, when I first witnessed us win a trophy after all those years as bridesmaids to Wigan. There's a risk that any victory will deliver only relief, relief that we've got a giant monkey off our back, but even that feeling would be worth it, wouldn't it?

| Luckily I can't make the final this year as if I could then I would have had no choice but to have to go and frankly I just couldn't stand it... We need a season or 2 away from the G/F to recharge I reckon. The point's moot anyway as I don't think a win against Wire is overly likely.

| I have to agree with Monkey on this one.
I was at Wembley in 87, 89 & 91, but I will never forget that feeling against Bradford in 96, 26 - 12 down I was thinking not again, but what happened in the last 25 minutes or so was unreal.
I've also been to every grand final that saints have appeared in and I had the same feeling after the first win over Bradford (8-6) in 1999 and 2000 v Wigan was special also as this was the first real major final (CC or GF) that I had witnesses us beat the pie eaters.
You have to be in it to win it, I've said this for the last 5 years, but surely if we did do the unthinkable this year (not the best saints team in SL era), get there and win it, this would probably be as goood as anything considering the circumstances!!!
p.s.
we have another 80 minutes to play first though!!!!
Never write off the saints

| Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me six times....
If we do get to OT, I'll probably be there, with my expectations set very low. That way, they can only be surpassed.

| There is only one team left in the playoffs who we havent beaten yet - and you want to play them at OT - thats unusually brave of you
Give me one of the teams who we have managed to beat if we do make it.

Woh! Hang on there. I didn't suggest we'd win it. I was saying I wouldn't mind losing to Catalans or Hull, that's all.

You big jessie.
If we get there I won't be expecting a win, and if we don't win I'll be gutted, but I definitely want us to be there. The sweetest victories are always achieved despite the distinct possibility, or even likelihood, of defeat. That's what makes some of our most memorable victories - Wembley '96, GF '99 & '02, WCC 2001 & 2007 - so memorable. It's also why cup final victories against the likes of Huddersfield and Catalans (no disrespect intended) don't quite loom as large in the mind.
If/when we break this Old Trafford spell it will probably be against the odds and it will definitely be a moment to cherish.

I've no problems admitting it, I feel sick about it now and we've not even got over the final hurdle to get there yet.
I don't think the team will win anything until it gets rid of the likes of Wello, Meli, TP, Robes etc. If it's playing on our minds, imagine what it does to them.

Tell me why you want to get rid of Roby again???
You do talk some utter trash.
why do you even watch saints? Your the biggest knocker I have ever seen!!!
Why do you watch saints, when all you ever do is slag them off?
I too, am not saying that we'll win it, but I remember the 80's and early 90's, god help us if you was around then!!! You would have topped yourself!!!

| I think last year was particularly hard because we could (and probably should) have won it, it was as good a chance as you are going to get, but we let the game slip making silly decisions. The four years before that I expected us to lose, and whilst it still hurt that certainly softened the blow.
However, you've got to be in it to win it, and if we play like we did at the weekend but improved our kicking game somehow we still have a have a chance.

| If the answer to this question is NO then do yourself a favour and remove yourself from this board, burn your Saints shirt, rip your season ticket and go and watch another sport.
If Saints had 0.001% of winning in two weeks time, I'd want us to get there 100% of the time. I can't quite understand why people wouldn't. How are we going to get the monkey off our back if we're not actually in the final? If people are that bothered about losing, what is the real difference between losing 5 or 6 on the bounce? You must be really bothered about what other people think and say if you don't want us to get there.
Do you want Saints to reach a final and lift silverware? In ANY circumstance, even if we were lining up against the greatest club side ever assembled and we were 500/1 to win, I'd rather we were there. As it stands, if we get to the final, we'll have to beat a Wigan side who admittedly would be favourites but aren't as good as the team that we beat last year in the playoffs or who beat us in the 2010 Grand Final.

1 - I don't want to get rid of Roby. I just think the psychological scars will run deep.
2 - That's exactly what they said about Columbus, Einstein and Darwin. I'm not wrong, I'm just too advanced for 2012.
3 - I enjoy(ed) watching rugby league and support the team 110% (When Wello doesn't have the ball, in which case I boo)
4 - I think you are repeating yourself now, this is like talking to my Gran

| Who would not want to see the team they support in the Grand Final
I like seeing Saints make it to the big night and be in contention of being crowned Champions, despite the 5 in a row. I think being 80 minutes from a 7th consecutive Grand Final shows the team's character and desire to get there and be in with a shout of being crowned Champions. I would rather Lose the Grand Final than not be there as it is the aim of all 14 clubs at the start of the season to be there on Grand Final night...

I don't think we'll get to this year's GF though

| I don't buy into this defeatist attiude from some Saints fans about getting to Old Trafford.
I can't go anyway this year as I'm at a wedding on GF day but it doesn't stop me desperatly wanting us to get there.
We'll never get the monkey off our backs by not getting there.

| The more we keep on losing a grand final the closer we get to winning one. Will be there, would hate it if we won the final and I wasn,t there to take in the winning atmosphere.
Last 4 defeats we always seem to go into the final with injures before or on the day of the final and we have never performed at our best, we need a bit of lucky luck. If we win next week, I will be expecting to win the final........as usual.

That's what drives me back even though after last year's loss I said to everyone who would listen that I was never going back, as I felt that last year's loss was worse than the others because of the nature of the loss rather than because it was five losses.

| I'm starting to think we have some of the most ridiculous fans in the league.
Firstly, after a sensational performance at HJ - meaning we have won twice where everyone else in the league has failed - I returned to the board to find a couple of rare posts celebrating the win, outnumbered considerably by 3 and 4 page threads criticising the usual scapegoats. Other boards would be full of threads rejoicing in a hammering of their local rivals, cup winners and many people's favourites for the title. Not us.
And now this. If you are seriously wanting your team to miss out on Final day, give it up. Just give it up.
100% I want Saints to get there. 100% I'll be there cheering them on. And, despite the result, I'll 100% want to be there again next year.
As has been said, god help some of you if you'd been around in the 80s...
