I'm loathe to bag players cos anyone who takes to a rugby pitch deserves respect and Gardner has had his moments (Brisbane 2007) but he should have been released after the 2009 season.In that year's Grand Final Matt Gidley put him clean through and he butchered a walk-in try due to absolutely no pace.Mick Potter had his critics but by the end of 2010 he had dropped Gardner completely,but he got a reprieve when Potter left AND another contract.

How about this though.Back in January Jon Wilkin was on Radio Merseyside discussing the merits of the modern day winger and his role in the team.At Saints,Wilkin said Gardner would be in his team every time "because he helps the forwards out and hit's it up hard from his own line".Admirable sentiments but then he then went on to say Darren Albert wouldn't get a game now because he was a lazy player who just wanted to score tries!I had to listen again to make sure I heard it correctly.

Shame on you Darren for wowing us for 4 years with breath-taking tries and wonderful try-saving tackles when you should have been hitting it up hard from your own line and relieving the forwards!If that's the mind set now it's no wonder we have a chronic lack of pace in the backs if the club just want solid pro's instead of genuine flair.

Attitude. It's something I've been harping on about all season. I don't like the attitude of some of our senior players and I think that attitude is simply most clearly seen in Wigan derbies, when fans notice because those derbies mean the most to most fans.

I was just trying to nice, put a positive spin on what is a dark era for tuther side of the lump. Seriously though, Wellens always, usually, has a good game playing against Wigan and I particularly admired him for coming back after he got his cheekbone smashed. Think it was his first game back with the a ball bobbling all over the place. Looked at first that he'd jibbed but he dove at the onrushing attackers feet, risking the same injury, when he could just have taken his time. Takes some courage that.
