Quote ="Mugwump"Wellens is shot as a starting fullback. However, I do think he could prove useful in the role Phil Veivers played off the bench when his legs went. Simmons is fond of having a cover option and Wellens really would be ideal as he can take up just about every position with the exception of prop.
I used to think Lomax was the logical replacement but I now feel he will either continue at scrum half or move into the hooking role where his footwork would be most effective.
Meli has to go and Wheeler is the ready-made replacement. I'm not particularly worried by his injury record. Bad luck will always follow someone. Years ago it was Tommy Martyn but he eventually overcame his problems and I'm sure Wheeler will, too.
Gaskell is a certainty at stand-off but I do think he could be very dangerous at fullback also.
The key issue is whether Hohaia has been offered any guarantees over where he will play. If he has then Lomax will either go to fullback or work in tandem with Roby. If not then I'd move him to fullback in a heartbeat.
So the starting back line is either: *snip* with Lomax and Roby in tandem at hooker'"
I suspect, with Scott Moore moving on, we may well see Hance Lohaia and Lomax rotating as scrum-half and hooker wherever necessary until either stakes a definitive claim for the 7 shirt.
