£135k was the going rate a) during the Long/Scully era and b) for an established international centre.
Shenton shouldn't be anywhere near this mark. He kind of got the GB slot by default and he has some way to go before he is one of the first names on the teamsheet.
That's not to say he hasn't got the potential to get close to (or even achieve) this level. He's got talent and the right attitude - and that stands for much.
If we've paid £135k we've paid over the odds. In an ideal world I wouldn't have gone above 85-90k. But we need a good centre (not to mention keeping such AWAY from our immediate competitors) and this is a seller's market.
