| I thought it was a good game to watch dispite the number of errors. We played some good stuff at times and gradually putting it together now. Ward was my mom followed by Ablett, Cuthbertson and Hally with special mention for JJB who always gives his all, as has been stated by others the goal line defence was shocking if not farcial at times. In the end we got their and without doubt the best side on the night won.
Regarding Aiton he did ok but if little robbie had done the amount of crabbing looking for a runner some on here would have blasted him. One last thing when will someone learn Zac how and when to pass.

Not sure what was up with Hardaker.

Think it was just one of those games for him. TBF his first knock on when Briscoe tried offloading was a tricky one to take and he was unlucky for another when Huby seemed to knock it out with leg after a good and what would've been a very relieving run from Hardaker.
Just watched the game back and the frustrating thing is that we've let a rival build up some much needed confidence. For 25/30 mins that Hudds team looked completely devoid of any confidence or belief and if we could've kept our foot on gas and racked up a few more scores before halftime and won comfortably it could've had a knock on effect for Hudds for the next few weeks. As it is they left the pitch looking like a team who has managed to turn a corner and might've kick started their season with the 2nd half performance.
Also the commentary praise the impact of the Hudds subs changing the momentum at the end of the first half, which they did. However in hindsight it probably wasn't the best idea from us to have BOTH Peacock and Cuthbertson off the field at the same time in that final 10mins of the half.

It was Wardle not Connor when he thought he'd had the ball stripped on the line, should have got at least a yellow, maybe because it was on half time that saved him.

Ward appeared last night to get through some defence and stats back it up. Thought JJB had a good game. Can't see where Delaney fits in at moment wouldn't drop any BR

| Was glad to get the 2 points last night. It was a massive game for Udders', their season may never fully recover after last night. It was good to see us score a couple of scruffy tries, (Aiton and Cuthbertson) from close in, we don't score enough of them when we have teams under the cosh, and that is why we got the result against a team that normally frustrates us even when we have the territorial advantage. Thought Aiton brought Good cohesion in attack and some good, nasty defensive hits. Abbo was tremendous and our defence was reassuringly good under the high bomb. All in all a good nights work.

Yep his form seemed to drop when the rotation started.
I was a little worried how he would respond after the play offs last season.

| I thought we played some good stuff at times were in control defensively then at 18-0 the team seemed to think it was game over ,got dragged into a grind made too many unforced errors and it became a much closer game than it should have been.
Ward for me was M.O.M closely followed by Briscoe ,Aiton and Cuthbertson.
Kylie looked 67 let alone 37 and our goal line defence was pretty pathetic to be honest ,Hardaker just couldn't get going imo and seemed to let his first error get to him.
Sinfield was pretty ineffective and in the second half JP was very slow at the ptb which added to the ??'s re-Singletons game time.
Some good stuff to build on but a hell of a lot needs improving including the bench rotation.
As for Mc.D's comments about the ruck i thought he was bang on and lets not forget "Bad Manners" Anderson and his team were chelping in Benthams ear at H/T and throughout the game.

| Just watched the game back and several things struck me:
Our attacking options are looking much better with Cuthbertson on the field (...and Burrow off it).
Both Kylie and JP and starting to look their years.
Our goal-line defence seriously needs addressing.
Huddersfield are mostly a set of whinging, moaning, dummy spitting, spoilt brats.

I didn`t notice any moaning and dummy spitting that wasn`t justified. All the 50/50 calls went Leeds way. Some things that Leeds did were ignored,. and Huddersfield the same things were penalized .

I saw Brough have a right go at Bentham, p*ssing and moaning for the entire time he spent lining his kick up just after Hudds has scored.
That's right, the Giants had just been awarded a try but that wasn't enough for Munchkin Brough, spoilt little sh*t.

That's unlucky. I'm assuming exactly the same thing happened when you played Hull, whose fans were claiming that Brough's dummy-spitting on Friday wasn't a patch on his efforts against them

| I didn't think McDermott's comments on Huddersfield's tactics were far wide of the mark. It wasn't pretty, but it's no good blaming Hudds for it. As a defence, you're always going to slow things down as much as the ref lets you get away with it. They did a good job of it, and it nearly turned the game round for them. No issue with them doing that. Results business. I would take issue with how far the ref allowed them to push it though.
That apart, I see some encouraging things and some things that need work. As others have alluded to, our goal line defence needs work. Our defensive structures generally looked a bit off at times. Hardaker had a bad day at the office, I wouldn't be inclined to read anything more into it than that. It happens to all players.
On the positive side, Aiton played very well, and we actually seem to have a bit of structure in attack this year, that's putting the ball in the hands of our dangerous runners at the right times more often. We're not 100% there, but it's actually better than I expected at this stage of the season.
All in all, we haven't quite "hit our straps" so far, but we have 6 points in the bank, which this year could be important - having 6 points daylight between us and Huddersfield at this stage can't be a bad thing. If we can build properly on this start, we could yet have a better season than many have been expecting. Finding space for our back 5 remains the key to everything.

The frustrating thing I find, and I'm guessing BMD wasn't pleased either, is that they were slowing [ievery[/i PTB, yet the first time we didn't clear quick or came in just too late with a second tackler we were pinged. Refs must realise that there are teams who work on the principle if they slow evevry single PTB down then they can get away with it. Leeds were trying to clear the ruck, yet every time we tried to slow things it was a penalty - particularly after the forst 25 minutes when the ref obviously got penalty fatigue with Hudds and switched things around.
One thing I would say though, the swing in penalties came just after Hudds brought on their two interchanges after around 25 minutes and started to win collisions. Up to then Leeds had dominated collisions, after that for most of the game Hudds had the upper hand. So maybe the ref thought they earned the right to lay on for half an hour. Even if you win the collision you should still clear the ruck quickly though.

| I suspect it boils down to laziness from the likes of Bentham. Slow ptb = less running about needed. I'm sometimes surprised not to see him lying on at the tackle.

I think it's also fair to say that some teams are a little more canny at slowing things down than others. Hudds and Wigan are particularly good at it. It's a skill we could perhaps get better at, albeit one we might like to see refs get a bit better at spotting. It was generally quite hard to see exactly why things were taking so long in our second half ptb's rather than there being a glaring infringement to ping. We conceded a couple of penalties for rather obvious late arrivals and shoves. We need to be smarter than that.
Brett Ferres was the obvious exception, who seemed to have turned up without his brain attached to his body. He's a player I like a lot, but on Thursday I thought he was absolute garbage, and one of the unworthiest try scorers you'll see all year!

We tried it a 3 or 4 seasons ago and ended up conceding 20 penalties a game, culminating in a bemused Kevin Sinfield being interviewed after one whistle blowing marathon trying to work out why Leeds were being penalised to death every game while doing "the same as everyone else"? We are not very good at it and it's not in the club culture.

I don't think the impact of having an offload game up the middle from Cuthbertson can be underestimated.
For the last couple of years teams haven't had to worry too much about Leeds breaking them down the centre of the field. Now they do, and that's going to force them to defend a little tighter leaving more space on the fringes for the likes of Ward, Watkins, Ablett and Moon to exploit.
Structurally, I can't see a massive difference in shape or patterns from what we've done in the past but everything does seem to be moving at a less pedestrian pace than it was at times, last year in particular.
