I appreciate it is very difficult to motivate players for games like this but this was an abysmal performance by any standard.

I cannot fathom how some on here can see a side playing to the standard Leeds have in the middle 8s will challenge the better sides next year if the current playing, coaching and conditioning staff remain in place?

I went to the game last night for the first time in a while. Leeds looked unfit, uninterested and uncoached. Truly abysmal with many seasoned players making the most basic of mistakes. Unless there is a significant change of personnel for next year on both playing and back room staff there is no reason to believe it will suddenly become much better. Oh and the long bar, that used to be a hive of activity, was virtually empty. Perhaps that's a beacon of supporter apathy.

One other point, if there was really 15k people there last night I'm a Dutchman... No wonder you can read about how well Leeds are supported when they include the season ticket holders who don't turn up to watch the garbage that is being served up this year.

I must say I'm disappointed with most of the comments on here. We tried our very best last night and gave Leeds a game. Granted it might not have met your standards but the reason you didn't put 60 - 70 points on us is because ours lads stuck at it for 80 mins. Quite a few times we forced the error or got back to make the tackle. You should try watching both sides in the game and crediting the opposition most of whom had been at work that day!

Of course. any criticism of Leeds on here is not meant to take away from the efforts of a fully commited Batley side.

Batley were great entertainment and for much of the game the more creative and intelligent team. I don't think the comments were aimed in any way at Batley who did themselves, the club and the supporters proud.

I was impressed with Batley, they were much better than I expected.

Because how we play in the Middle 8's has no real baring on how we play next year. I was disappointed we weren't more ruthless and scored more but their is a clear 'let's just get this season over with' sense about things.

Like at the end of the 2014 season people focused more on the losses to London and Bradford rather than the cup wins vs Warrington and Cas, I said they were a truer indicator of what we could do and I'd say the same about our recent wins vs Hull and Wigan rather than how big a scoreline we beat Batley by.

Looks like we're about 40 mins from this Middle 8's and 2016 nonsense over with anyway. Leigh 36-10 at HT vs Hudds. One SL team is definitely going down unless Hudds produced a big comeback, at this rate it could be Hudds.

Hudds looked like the Championship team. Can't believe how bad they are, but fair play to Leigh they have taken control of their own destiny.

I'd like to think there is a little bit of that and there probably is. even if we stuffed Batley, London or whoever by 70 plus it really makes little difference as long as we see our way through this middle 8s. I still feel that with Segeyaro on board and a half back who can control things then we will be thereabouts next year. If not then Mac will certainly be on his bike so we will see what develops through the off season.

Would fancy HKR to beat Hudds in the final week at this rate to get the 3rd spot. A MPG with Hudds vs Salford could go either way, neither club look up for the fight.

You like rewriting history don't you? It doesn't' make it correct. How we are playing has every bearing, as it is the way we have played over 28 matches, not just five. Just because we are in the eights hasn't changed anything, we are as poor as the season as a whole. Last week you were saying we should play our "alleged" strongest team to let them prove themselves in finishing the season. That reasoning lasted long I see.

I didn't say "so they could prove themselves". I said so we can try and score as much as possible. And I still think that was the right decision even if it didn't turn out that way with the scoreline. Given the u19's conceded over 50 points we can hardly say things would've been better with some of them in.

We conceded over 50 at Widnes and Warrington, nice to see you now think players are not good enough if involved in that sort of match. Your opinion changes by the minute.

But in reality that you think an individual can not be up to it based on team mates, or the performance of the opposition seems to raise more questions.

Difference is we know those senior players can play at this level and regardless of your opinion on performance or opposition they have been winning matches the last two months. Simple.

And as I recall it wasn't one individual we wanted in, it was several.

So you are saying the performances against Wigan and Hull have relevance but the performances in the middle 8s don't nor do the drubbings by the likes of Warrington, Widnes, Cas etc?

I would suggest you are being very selective almost biopic to defend you stance that now Leeds have signed a hooker they will be challenging for honours?

No we don't know they can perform at the top level they haven't played a top side for several weeks - it is not that long ago that they were beat by Widnes at home - time will tell how this side goes next season.

If they continue to play such a turgid style of rugby as they have this season then next season is going to be a slog for the spectators never mind the team.

I only said the Middle 8 games should be taken into context. You could pick a game from any title winning season and say we wouldn't win the GF based on that, quite a few in 2011 and 2012. Not beating Batley by X amount of points in a mini league that were doing in 2nd gear in 2016 tells us nothing about our 2017 campaign.

we got the vital 2 points last night and that is all we can take from our lacklustre performance
the big winners though were batley who put in a very spirited and committed performance and they fully deserve all the plaudits

batley are a fantastic club with a very good group of loyal supporters who really get behind them each week
