I have been shot down on these boards in the past for comparing the apparent hatred towards anyone wearing opponent colours to racism . I stand by my past comments on the subject . People should be welcomed regardless of their shirt ( or skin) colour .
Am I still wrong in my thoughts on this subject ?

In the nrl you see loads of shirts from many teams at most games. if people wanna support the game good on em.

No reason why I should mate - every Leeds fan I have ever known has been very much totally decent. In fact, most put more than a few of our own lot to shame, both with knowledge of the game and with having followed the team through lean times as well as good, and understanding what it is all about.

That was why I was quite upset to read what happened. You sort of expected it at the Boulevard or Hilton Park, but the worst I would have expected at Headingley was a bloody good bantering (like on here...) - nothing worse.

Unfortunately I missed Mick (NO . It wasn't me that threw a bottle at him ) Wouldn't have minded having a minute or two to have a word with one of the elite few who have almost cult status on these boards . He and Damo are amongst that elite . I didn't see him until he had passed me on his way out . Couldn't miss the shirt . It was big .

Oh, it's big.

In fact, it left "big" behind some way back, and having sped past "very big" (and that's sort of me...) it is making serious ground on "huge"...!



Be good if a few more on here could meet Mick - he's not at all what you expect, and actually knows what he is talking about regarding the game. I know, I was shocked as well! Bit of a wally sometimes but heart of gold, tbh.

More Xs on his shirt label than on his pools coupon . That ain't uncommon on the lads I stand with . The Big Andy that has been mentioned is the one that has often appeared on telly with his belly out .He has no shame .

Many ventures onto foreign soils have ended in drunken belly measuring contests . To his credit he has only been beaten once . I have no idea where . But it definitely happened .

Actually . It might have been a Headingley about two years ago. Against a Saints fan .
I clearly (ish) remember them arguing over who was the biggest fattest barsteward .

That is how things should be . Who cares about who is the best , hardest , or fastest ?(deliberately omitted biggest)
It should be about having fun and a good day out .

No Rick I was stood further down steps just at side - next to the scuffle between the psycho lad with the glasses and hoody, and the big guy with pink away shirt. That was interesting




My opinion on Gledhill is, the abuse was way out of order but your always opening yourself upto it. You can go to games as a neutral but there are places you can and can't watch the game from. The middle of the SS is a big no no! My brother is a Bulls fan and he has been to some games with me, but we've always stood at the scoreboard end of the SS. No way would we have gone into the middle. No its not right but that is modern society.

Just thought I’d throw my two penneth in to all of this. I’m the lad that was with Mick last Friday in the SS (or as Neil has put it the psycho with the Glasses)
I did actually tell Mick NOT to wear his Bulls shirt as he would be standing with me in my normal place in the middle of the SS. I know what it gets like up there sometimes so I thought it would be for the best. But as he and so many people mentioned why should he NOT wear his Rugby Team’s colour’s? It’s a Rugby League match, supposed to be a ‘Family Game’

He did get the odd look and the occasional chant went up about Bradford Bulls which is all part and parcel of the game and of course banter.

What we didn’t expect was as soon as the score line started going downhill for us we would be subjected to getting a bottle thrown at us. Well I say us it actually hit me right at the side of my head!!

Half time came so I alerted our finest Headingley Stewards – Nothing happened.

Second half then more Beer thrown in our direction, told the Stewards once more. Nothing happened.

Now of course looking back the easiest thing to do would have been just to move away from that area. Why we didn’t’ I don’t know!

I then saw something I haven’t seen at a RL match for years, 7 minutes to go Mick needed to go to the Toilet, obviously the score line wasn’t the greatest. 3 fully grown men chased him down the stairs shouting all sorts of abuse at him, now I’m not naming names on here because that isn’t the right thing to do but the people who were there no who it was.
I saw all of this happen so it was then I followed these lads down, I was trying to calm them down then all I got was abuse saying “I wasn’t Leeds etc etc etc…”
I said a few words which I’m not happy about, and I know the best thing to do would have been to leave it for the Stewards to sort out, but previously asking them for a bit of help twice and getting no response sometimes you do think to yourself what’s the point in them being there?

I thought I was doing the right thing in sticking up for my Friend, but from the reaction of the Stewards I was clearly wrong. The only time they were doing their job was to ruff me up and not listen to a word we said about the situation afterwards.

The thing is now though, the next time I go to HQ I won’t be able to stand in my usual place due to all of this and I’m gutted. I don’t want to be the subject of more hostility!

Sorry for anyone that saw the incident towards the end of the game that’s not usually like me.

TBF I'd have stuck up for Mick too. He's a genuinely nice guy and hasnt got a bad bone in his body. The stick he received is totally unacceptable and I suggest if you do know who they are you should tell someone higher up who can deal with the matter.

Fans who can't deal with losing should really take a look at their lives, because if you need to try to harm someone over sport, you're not right in your head. Some people annoy me and had Mick not broke his phone and lost his numbers I'd have probably been up with you to back you up too.

Ask WCR about my abilities to defuse a situation down too... They're second to none

I don't recall the exact time (it was around 10 years ago) but I made the decision to relocate from the South Stand for several reasons... it became too popular, too overcrowded, the incessant noise pollution from that gawd awful band... but more importantly, it was generating a much more hostile attitude and atmosphere than in previous times. I'm not for one minute suggesting it used to be a pleasant stand to be situated in because it's always attracted the ed-up tosspot brigade (particularly around half way at the back) but it's utterly house these days.

Was you the one that was told off by the stewards because of the old man complaining about bad language in front of his grandkids? And the one who kicked to advertisement board? That is who I'm referring to as the Psycho.

I got told off by a Steward in the first 10 minutes of play for swearing, and quickly apologised to said Steward and a young lad that was infront of me, young kids shouldn't have to hear that sort of language I got carried away with the moment.

But kicking an Advertisement Board wasn't me?! Not that I can remember anyway Neil.

Back in the 80s and most of the 90s though, it was easier to get away from them due to the vast empty spaces.

Sadly success on the field seems to have brought with it a less than desirable element off it.

There wasn't a dull moment on and off the field. And to think that there was a Bulls fan in the middle of it all is cringe-worthy!

Although I haven't spoke to Mick for a couple of days I think he was going to take it further?!

At the end of the day maybe he shouldn't of worn his Bulls shirt in the SS, but to get the abuse both of us got was out of order. I had my Rhinos shirt on as well so it wasn't as if I was wearing plain clothes?

Now it looks like I'm going to have to move from my usual place due to all of this rubbish.

Me and my old man used to go in southstand but because of the idiots in there we moved onto the east terrace where we really enjoyed mingling with away fans. Then the Carnegie stand was built and we went back to southstand.

It had got a lot lot worse with loads of chavs. Can't really stand anymore my dad so we go in north stand now.

The thing is though how long has stuff like this been going on?

Why aren't the appropriate people doing something about it?

Its like a holding pen/youth club some nights in there, full of vexed, jumped up never-gonna-bes gobbing off at folk, throwing chips, drinks and god knows what else at fellow fans and pushing past you while spewing forth language that makes even me cringe with embarrasment.

For the Crusaders cup game myself and the missus went in the Carnegie wing section. Wow. Clean, good view easy to get to the bar, cracking facilities for my missus, we were well impressed. Probs gonna move into there next season as i just cant stand being around such utter guttersnipes for 80mins.

Thing is though I prefer to watch Rugby & Football from the side, you can see the game much better I feel. But I also prefer standing up so I haven't got much choice to be fair.

What a stupid post. You should really go back to practising yout throw because you missed.

Don't be silly Chris, you should be fine standing in your usual place again for the Hull KR match. Rugby League isn't in no way shape or form like Wendyball.
