Just watched District 9. It was decent.

I heard a film critic on R5 yesterday state that the film industry has pandered to a child and teen market for so long that they've forgotten how to make a film that would grip your average sensible adult for 90 minutes and not leave the cinema with a sense that it passed some time did that, but now where's Pizza Hut.

And thinking about it, I can see his point of view, especially if you've watched the two Godfather films on F4 this week or Red Dragon on Tuesday - are their any recent films with a story to tell that doesn't involve some sort of fictional superhero, strange creatures that live in a desert and eat people, or Hugh Grant playing Hugh Grant in another episode of 4 Weddings ?

There are films out there that fall outside those boundaries, but they simply don't get shown in the multiplexes. You're either looking to your local independent cinema - and you've got one of the best in Leeds - or waiting for a DVD release.

I've been very active these past few days. I decided to lock myself in the NFL threads over the off season. Im now back with a bang (not thee bang, obv)

The kids market is usually the stuff I watch, as you can imagine and probably already know. But there isn't any films that are mainly for adults these days and everything is going to be 3D at the flicks soon to, which means more monsters, aliens & robot zombies jumping in your face.

Red Dragon with Ed Norton and Ant Hopkins? I watched alot of that if that's the same film I'm thinking of? Why didn't I watch it all? I can't remember.

Seems to be the way that the mainstream film venues are going, I suppose anyone over the age of 30 sees them for what they are - a rip-off opportunity on their wallet, a chance to share a room with a lot of people you'd normally go out of your way to avoid, with the only upside being that you can often get your hair highlights done for free at Kirkstall.
