| [quote="MjM":to3exs4f]This was something Matt Shaw came up with in a largely nonsensical article. The pre-season training trip will have been booked and paid for a long time ago.[/quote:to3exs4f]
I'm sure it was but either way it's surely an unnecessary large expense for a club with particularly shaky finances, having recently stayed afloat by selling off 3 of it'main assets and going cap in hand to their supporters.. seems irresponsible.

Yep. MjM makes a fair point, but there is a broader theme here. Salford have been flirting with financial disaster for at least a couple of years and in their desire to continue their excellent form on the field they have been guilty of living beyond their means.

| Nobody has mentioned Macdonald
Would be interesting to see him come back. When all said and done, he is a classy centre.

We don't need him.
And he's a prick.

Don`t think we will drop the likes of Newman, Hanley or Connor to accommodate him.
But I do agree he is a very good centre on his day.
I reckon he`s blotted his copybook the last time he was here.
Watkins or Stone for me.

| How can we take Macdonald or Stone?
We don't have a quota space available.
Or is there dispensation on quota spots as well as salary cap?

| In that case there'll be plenty of interest in their overseas players.
I'd definitely take Lafai. Wrong side of 30, but still quality.
I like Shane Wright as well.

| Didn’t we do something similar with Wellington Albert when Widnes got into difficulty. Anyone signed from Widnes was given exemption from cap and quota for the length of that intial contract.

| Salford should have done the honourable thing end of last season and stepped down from SL and allowed London to keep their place.
With the IMG grading system this makes should not have happened and makes the game look bad

| It doesn`t look like we will be signing Watkins or any other Salford player unless we are well under the cap.
A meeting of owners on Tuesday, saw the dispensation proposals thrown out - despite Salford being among the clubs to vote in favour of them being put in place. Many clubs believe allowing clubs to spend beyond the salary cap restrictions in place would damage competition integrity.

| Salford sales to start immediately, I would expect Brierley, Cross, Lafai, MacDonald, Sneyd, Ormondroyd, Shorrocks, Watkins all to have new clubs before the weekends out.

| I reckon we’ll get Watkins.
RFL have told them they have to sell players or thet won’t be able to register players for this season. Reduced cap of 1.2m

| Cross - Hull FC
Ormondroyd - Castleford
Sneyd, Shorrocks - Leigh
Watkins - Leeds
These are five moves I think are likely.
MacDonald, Lafai, Nikorima, Stone, Wright, Lewis, Marsters will get looked at elsewhere but unless quota spots open, only Wakefield, Castleford, Huddersfield and Catalan can look at them.

Unless things have changed it was reported that no cap dispensation would be given, which allegedly rules Leeds out.

Leeds are very good at finding ways and means, they will find wriggle room and it starts with the fact that part of Watkins salary would be off cap due to being club trained

I don’t think we’ll be fully up to the cap, I reckon there will be s way to get him in

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see him back at Leeds, just wouldn't want us to get ourselves in a position where we have next to no cap space for 26, especially when you bear in mind that Kal will be 34 later this year. I could just see Wire ( with their elastic cap) fitting him in. Guess we'll know soon enough.
