| Mine is from 1991,moved to Leeds in 1990 from Suffolk at that time never having watched league before . Went to watch Jonathon Davies play at headingley for Widnes I think. I was hooked on the game from then and have had some fantastic times watching the rhinos/loiners since oh and I was one of those carrying Ellery off at Central Park great times!

| Agree with earlier post about des Drummond's drop at fartown.
He scored some amazing tries at Leeds in his pomp.
One more from me. Around same era , would guess about sept 1983 we played Widnes at home midweek. We had not won a game. Leeds surprisingly got stuck in and won in the end. Big Cumbrian Widnes forward Les Gorley hit Roy Dickinson 3 or 4 times. As Roy covered up from a slightly crouched position he brought an upper cut from the western terrace that smashed Gorley's nose all over the place. Both got sent off. Roy ran up the ramp with a big daft grin on his face. Gorley's legs had gone and with blood flowing was helped off by Widnes trainers and got dog's abuse from the eastern terrace.

| There was a high scoring Leeds V Leigh game at Headingley on a gloriously sunny afternoon. Some brilliant rugby and tries from both teams in the first half but alas none could be shown on Scrumdown as Leeds had a shirt sponsor's name emblazoned (YOUNGERS) and it was in breach of the TV contract.
Only time I've seen David Oxley running on his way round the pitch to tell Leeds to change kit at half-time. Leigh won with John Woods and Drummond to the fore, ended the season as Champions IIRC. Dave Hesselwood and Kevin Rayne were the Leeds players that stick in mind.

Won't have been Scrumdown. That didn't come in until 1989.
Anyway, a couple of Steve Morris ones; firstly, a cup game (JPS, I think) at Springfield Borough (not the Simpsons one), and he seemed to beat half their team on his way to score, and his final game for us at HQ, when he scored a late try to beat Hull KR, after they'd thought they'd snatched it near the end. Set up by Peter Jackson IIRC, poor lad. Such a tragic life.

| It was the 1981/82 season, John Woods scored a boat load of points under Murphy who escaped at the end of the season and arguably reawakened the Wigan juggernaut.
Point taken re Scrumdown, guess it must have been RL Action back then - Richard Madeley southern ****

| Great thread chaps.
How about the time played Widnes 4 times i think on the trot in mid 80s? Carl Gibson hat trick at Headingley. The boot throwing penalty and 2 point losd at Widnes after a fantastic Dave Heron try. John Basnett scored for Widnes. What a good winger he was until we signed him!!! The cup quarter final draw at Widnes with a last min Dave Creasser penalty to get them back to Headingley for the replay. What a battle royale the replay was! A 5-0 win in one of the hardest games i had seen. No tries scored. Tony Myler knocked Curries head off. But a win.
We lost in the semi after a replay both games at Elland Rd and another Des Drummond like try from David Laws right on HT. KRnt had Harkin sent off in 1st for a trip on Currie, we had a 12 point lead and 10 mins after HT we was 12 behind. Got a draw but lost 17-0 in replay.
Leeds really were rubbish in 80s n 90s but we had some really great individuals.

| Great posts, especially those I attended
Few from me..
I recall a midweek game vs Cas, score 8-4 I think and no tries!! Very rare!!
Away to Hull KR. Vince Fawcett coming on, and then immediately subbed for allowing them to score. Leeds won with a late Gareth Stephenson try I think
Hammering Cas on Boxing Day around 1990.
Alan Tait smashing his head against a concrete post at Doncaster early Super League. He played on!!
I have memories of being 19-2 down to Warrington with 10 minutes left, and we won 22-19 I think??
1994 Leeds 46 Sheffield 46. Ridiculous game!!!
Away at Leigh pre SL. Horrible, wet and windy played in the mud. Think Leeds scraped a late draw, but most of fans home & away huddled under stand chanting at each other no more than 20 yards apart What a dump that ground was!!!
CC semi final at Elland Road v Fev 1994 I think. Schoey interception length of field try! Wembley and the loss to Wigan followed
Francis Cummins scoring a better try than Offiah in the 1994 final. IMO of course!

| billy slater warming up before a WCC right in the corner, a high bomb and he's right under it then about 10 feet above his head the howling gale and rain caught it and it was blown back to the posts
the look on his face as it dissapeared was priceless
peacock running the ball in for the 1st time against bradford after he'd signed, they threw everything at him in that tackle
away game at widnes and their mascot decided to jump into the leeds end, he got out but lost his head and started paddying cos no one would hand it back

| Cliffie Lyons at Odsal put Brendon Hill on his ar$e with a sweet punch. Hill went for Cliffie and got put down cartoon style. Cliffie will be remembered for his sublime skills and guile but he was as hard as they come.
John Holmes when he filled the gap of our shocking injury crisis for one last swan song! I got is tie ups for his socks. No Idea where they are.
Gibbo and Schoey length of the field interceptions in the YCF.
The distruction of Saints at home in 04.

| Another game vs Saints where we walloped them even after Cruikshank had been sent off.
Leeds vs York in the cup, horrible ground - the first time I'd been to one with cages - easy win for us but I recall ET scoring one of his trademark tries following a wonderful arcing run out of defence.

| In that season where they change the kick off rule, so if you scored, you kicked off, there was a game at Salford. They'd signed Phil Hassan from us, and every one of our kick-offs seemed to land in his arms, immediately followed by Adrian Morley knocking him out of his boots. Literally at one point, I think.
Fair play to Phil, he never gave up.

Cup game v Halifax with a collie running about the pitch for about an hour. Game interspersed with half-d attempts at catching it. Televised too, the modern fan who complains that the game's a laughing stock really has no idea of some of the depths it's seen.
In fact, here you go
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zYXsroqcVqA
Still, at least the playing surface was decent.

Great thread...and who said nostalgia's not what it used to be? The game's changed and not always for the best....whatever happened to dogs running on the pitch??

I seem to remember a dog ( one of those vicious staffy types) running around post office road and scaring whoever was in possession of the ball sometime in the 90's. Another incident although not a "favourite"moment was some parachutist coming to grief on the stand wall at the Willows I think; fortunately he was ok.
There was also the fisticuffs with Craig Izzard v widnes some time in the 80's perhaps

| There are some superb posts on here which have raised many a smile, so thanks to all who have contributed.
Few more:
- Jamie Peacock drop goal [iattempt[/i versus Cas at home 24-24 with one of the most beautiful sunsets I've seen over Headingley for a rugby match.
- Getting absolutely soaked on the away terrace at Cas 2009, think when Sinfield kicked a last second penalty to win the match. Thunder and lightning added to the monsoon rain and seem to remember a large fire not too far from the ground too.
- Walking up the steps of the old St Michael's terrace 2000 and the club used to have almost 'celebrity greeters', I think. Remember seeing Willie Thorn, snooker fellow there. Loved that walk up to the top of the St Michael's end. You have the tall, tall trees, the slope would block your view of the pitch and you can hear the buzz of the ground, the South Stand and then at the top the ground just opens up to see this beautiful lush green pitch (or so it appeared at the time) - always means so much more to a young child on there first few times at the ground.
- Brett Mullins breaking his arm away to Cas in the cup 2001, could have been his debut.
- Iestyn Harris' return to Headingley and hammering them 40-12 or so when McGuire scored within 30 seconds. It was the same day Paul Radcliffe had her 'incident' in the Athens 2004 Olympics.
- Leeds 70-0 St Helens - as a 12 year old on the Western Terrace wall you're so close to the pitch. One thing that always stands out is a young lad looking only a couple of years older than me taking a scoot from dummy half and being held up by a few men over the try line. That young lad went on to have a decent career, his name being James Roby.
- Barrie Mac scoring into the old St Michael's end versus Wigan in the 70-0 rout 2005. Sure the parachuters came in before the game, opera man belting out his chords and a fairly even first 20 minute or so before it became a beating - seem to stand out the week before they got belted 75-0 by Saints in the cup.
- Leeds versus Wigan, play off semi finals, so bloody close, especially on those last two plays.

I remember that day - was on the train from London all going OK until we got to Wakefield and the train just stopped and didn't go any further. Missed the coach from Headingley had to get a train and taxi to the Willows.

This one is not about Leeds but having gone to almost every CC final at Wembley since 1980 the 1985 final between Wigan and Hull in 1985 is probably the best game I have ever seen and the game that really hooked me as a RL fan ever since
Brett Kenny and Peter Sterling 2 of my favourite players ever

| The Easter game at Hull in 2008(?), particularly the disallowed Ali try by Ganson. The rugby we played at that time was amazing. I think we hammered Bradford away, and Quins at home the week before.
