Has anyone ever removed Artex from a ceiling? I've just been offered a job removing it from someones room but heard it's abit of a ballache. It's just a case of dampening it and scraping it off innit?

No - just say no.

If you want to discover what its like to scrape artex off a ceiling then hang from a doorway by your arms for 20 minutes and then rub your knuckles really hard on very rough sandpaper until they bleed.

Then decide whether you want to repeat that for a whole weekend.

The only cure for Artex is to get a plasterer to skim the ceiling for you.

I've been stewing over it last night. Been offered some really good money to do the job though. I'm probably gonna go ahead and do it and then spend the whole night crying after I've been doing it all day and got absolutelty nowhere.

I knew two people who had Artex on the walls of their staircase

Can you imagine coming downstairs in a morning with a hangover grabbing onto the wall for support ?

We had Artex on the walls of our staircase when we bought the house, all the way up the stairs, and all the way down the upstairs corridor. Horrific stuff. Stippled effect. Used to take your knuckles off if you tried to hold the bannister.

I remember (or should I say... I'll never forget!) trying to move a wardrobe up that staircase and constantly catching my hands on the walls. Hate the stuff.
