| Quote ="Biff Tannen"What? a culture that won't allow players to turn their backs on a player who has just signed a contract committing themselves to the club?
If a player thinks that that is being unfair maybe we don't want that kind of player at the club anyway.
Bottom line is, this kind of thing needs addressing and if that takes us digging our heels in on this to get something put in place for the greater good of the game then so be it, i'm all for it.'"
The club has way too much previous in regard to contractual disputes.
The common denominator being the CEO himself.

I know of no other club which has been so antagonistic, threatened or participated in as many legal actions, slapped so many transfer fees on players.
All this is indicative of an authoritarian management culture at the club armed with a nasty streak if anyone should dare to not tow the line. Not including obvious player exceptions of course who display the required level of loyalty demanded, without question.'"
Perhaps it's also why we lose fewer players to other codes and leagues.

Whilst I like most don't agree with how Solomona left Cas at least he's trying to join a club that really want him and were prepared to offer big money for him.
Segeyaro on the other hand should've considered whether the club interested really wanted him that badly....they clearly don't. Seems he was just fully expecting Leeds to just release him and not want a fee and didn't for a second consider that option.
Exactly why it's been worth Leeds digging their heels in on this if it stops others just thinking the same thing.

We will see how it plays out. I expect, like you i assume, the old 'undisclosed fee' will be wheeled out sometime early January. Something along the lines of being 'a fair deal all round' even though we all know it will be next to nowt.

Is there that many players worth losing in today's climate? We haven't produced much talent for years. The threat from the NRL or Union has always been over-exaggerated.
If it was that great at Leeds, Segeyaro would be looking forward to returning for the remaining two years of his contract and possibly beyond. He doesn't like it here, he never has liked it, so it's time to move on quickly for both club and player.
I've always had my doubts about signing him in the first place. There was a reluctance on his part to join the club from the very beginning, as if he was hanging around for an offer... any offer from any NRL club... last season. He was that desperate to stay in Australia.
His positive words about joining Leeds and how great it is over here is not necessarily lying. It is typical of the mindset of someone who is desperate to convince themselves they've made the right choice when in fact, at the time, it was Hobson's Choice which is no choice at all, unless retirement was an option.
Time to end this dreary confrontation by the club and get on with Plan B, whatever that might be. We've seen this all before and we all know how it ends.
Now where's that undisclosed fee for the umpteenth time?

| If it is true that there is some kind of unusually authoritarian culture at the club, I think most casual fans will be happy with this given the success reaped since GH took over.
That said, I'd be interested in the evidence of such a negative culture over this period, weighed against positive indicators. There are plenty of overseas players and coaches who have stayed at Leeds for prolonged spells, certainly more than have been dumped/left due to some kind of contractual fallout.
If GH is becoming a problem, fine, but who is going to come in and replace him? This will have to happen at some point... I'd just rather we don't have to go through that so soon after one of the worst seasons in the club's history, thank you.

It seems his options are diminishing by the day.
For once I agree with most of the points made by WE.
I do think, however, that GH has to be careful not to let Segeyaro off the hook with his comments that could be construed as constructive dismissal, since he's not yet breached his contract.
I think that employers should leave the door open for contracted employees to return especially in such circumstances.
There is a great danger that we end up cutting off our noses to spite our faces.
I know that there is massive distaste on here towards Segeyaro but I mainly blame his manager for turning his head.
He's still a relatively young man (25), I'd guess with a limited education whose manager has bulled him up for his (Ayoub's) own ends - this seems to be an all too familiar tale.

| So let me get this right....
- Segeyaro pulls the sick card, with the Sharks waiting in the wings with an offer
- Leeds say they're not going to release him and demand a fee
- Sharks say 'ok, well we can't afford and won't pay a fee'
- Leeds next response is 'well he's not welcome back now anyway' and have terminated his contract???
Good move...... I'm pretty sure the legal eagles out there will have a field day - Leeds are now effectively making it impossible for Segeyaro to make a living as a rugby league player.... Can't see that being held up as acceptable in Court.
'Undisclosed fee' all around....

| I reckon if he came back the club would make a statement with him saying something long the line of
I am apologise to the Leeds fans to the club and their players I had been over come with emotions of being reunited with my family and seeing the surroundings where I grew up that made me feel I couldn't leave home again I fell in to my Old habits listen to people I thought was my friends that got me in to The situation that had me playing reserve grade at my old club the Panthers but now I'm here and I'm back here I want to concentrate on my career first thing I need to do is making it up to the boys and this great club to have me back and Leeds fans for hopefully they can give me the second chance so I will not let them down and we can push on for Silverware
And with some good performances the fans will let him off the hook and just say he's young and he made a mistake

| This was the point I made earlier.
Segeyaro now has a choice.
He stays in Australia and can`t play for anyone and gets no money
Or he comes back to Leeds to fulfill his contract.
Leeeds say we don`t want you and he cries foul and constructive dismissal we have breached our contract.
He can return by the 3rd Jan and apart from saying he didn`t want to ocme back he has had a change of heart.
Where does that leave us?
It does seem a stupid thing for GH to say we don`t want him.

I'm not usually one to bag GH, but I fhink he has shot his load a bit early and far too publicly on this one.

| That's poor journo work. If the contract has been terminated, then there is nothing to sell as the relationship between player and club is ended. I'd be surprised if GH were daft enough to terminate a contract like this, and even more so if he were to publicise it. I'm struggling to believe that article.

I'd also be surprised, as there is no way they could have followed due process in that time. Having said that though, they've still got his registration, and I would guess it is that what holds the value in any transfer fee - but if they have terminated his contract, it most certainly weakens their position, as does publicly stating that we no longer want him anyway.

Yeah i thought it was a bit fishy myself. GH made our position clear yesterday in a club released statement without ever stating Segeyaro can't ever come back, yet just later gets in contact with some Aussie journalist to say we won't accommodate him. Why was this piece of information solely apparently explained to some Australian journalist only?

| IF his contract has been cancelled, the obvious inferences are that a) we need too free up cap space to sign a replacement and b) whatever fee we finally demand won't be sufficiently prohibitive to prevent JS moving on.

Thanks, i had not read that article.
I'm no expert on employment law, but agree that it does seem like a strange move by the club.

If a player is contracted to the club by signing 2 or 5 year deal then they have committed to Leeds for that length of time. They can not be a allowed to walk away when the mood or a higher financial offer is given by another club.
Can you please let us know which players Leeds have been an antagonistic towards or threatened........ Don't say Zak as he brought everything onto his own head and Leeds stood by him for far too long.
You must live in cloud cooker land if you expect clubs and companies to be run without some form of " authoritarian management". I bet you would be the first on here to whinge if Leeds said to Ryan Hall, Kallum Watkins etc, oh don't worry we know you can earn more money at XYZ club, so off you go and enjoy your life.

Depends if Cronulla are interested in paying that (or anything at all). Like people have said about Leeds needing to move on an focus on finding someone else in time for the new season the same applies to Cronulla and they might well wash their hands of this signing and look elsewhere. If the last 12 months have shown Segeyaro anything it's that he isn't as in demand in the NRL as he might think/hope.

So your grand example of the CEO and coach being antagonistic, threatening, hostile and full of retribution is to post a link of a guy who was here for a single season way back in 2001 (10 years before the current coach took over btw) and his main gripe was that he was told by the team manager to take a taxi home when he picked up a collarbone injury?
