| To say they built the St John's in the early 80's, it's held up pretty well. It's design doesn't look too dated.
When you consdier the complete rebuild they did on the Bond Street Centre, and the one taking place on The Schofield's Centre, that's pretty good going.

I think the thing that is throwing you is the big roundabout. That photo was taken just after the tunnel was constructed, and indeed it might still be under construction, and Westgate roundabout is still present.
Its not like that of course now, the roundabout disappeared under the ring road and the junction was elevated so that the inner ring road goes underneath it now, I remember the roundabout though from going on a Heaps coach every week to the swimming pool and I'm sure the access to the swimming pool was from the front at that time and not the back streets as it ended up being.
The office building on the roundabout and in front of what is labelled "The Marlboroughs" belonged to the GPO, a friend of mine worked there, it was demolished in the early 80's by Controlled Demolition who used to have an office next to ours in Horsforth.

And what did the sign on the Westgate roundabout say with regards to the Olympics?

Aye, it's one of my favourite things from childhood.
I'm sure it probably only lasted for a few months, but when you're a kid things seem to last longer.

No, it was a missing letter that turned one of the places mentioned into something very amusing when you are 10 years old.

Wow – I’m proper spooked..!!
I was just thinking about the car park last night (better shot of it [url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/danielrobot/215342802/in/set-72057594048827351/here[/url), it was where my dad used to park when we when to town. It took a while to place exactly where this place was.
I remember there was a shop there that sold belts called ‘Belt Up’ – I only remember this because as a 10 year old I thought it was a very clever name for a belt shop (I was only 10).

| We used to ride our bikes to Yeadon Airport during school summer holidays to watch the Viscounts and other such old fashioned stuff take off and land, so I remember the old airport layout quite well with a viewing area roughly where the Jet2 terminal is now.
But I didn't think it had changed this much [urlhttp://www.flickr.com/photos/danielrobot/2327043564/in/set-72057594048827351/[/url

Interesting picture of Bridge St in Castleford taken during the recent floods, I assume it was recent anyway judging by the modern car in the shot.

Do you remember the old aeroplane that they used to set alight to practise their fire drills?
It was "parked" on the Bayton Lane side of the airport near plane trees hill, which was our favoured viewing spot.

I remember that, back in the days when I used to go up and watch the planes with my grandad. Given that he passed away in 1980, it gives an indication as to how long ago it was there.
We always used to watch from the terminal building and I remember my favourite planes being the Air Lingus one's, as they had steps that came down from the back of the plane.

We went to Spain on a Dan-Dare 727 once - climbing on board up its a[irse [/iwasn't a comfortable feeling, nor was the step up and down halfway down the aisle where the wing struts came through the cabin.

| I do recall being at Yeadon once, stood at the fence in the "official" viewing point next to a geek who had one of those airband scanners when a Britannia 737 was taxi-ing to where the old runway ended right next to the road, it parked itself at the end of the runway for ages until we heard a call on the geeks radio for security to go around to the main road and clear some kids off the wall right behind where the 737 was waiting to take off - they'd have ended up in Yeadon Tarn if they'd stayed there, seemed like a fantastic game to me ![Laughing icon_lol.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_lol.gif)
