We saw both sides to Howson yesterday. There's the one that gets brushed off the ball for the first goal and cannot get back, and then there's the spark of genius for our goal. He's an enigma, at times looks one of the best players in the side, and at others goes wandering for large periods of the game.
I thought Johnson went quite well yesterday, good threat in the air and actually passed the ball. I'm a big fan of Kilkenny, his delivery was good and he's the one player we have who can pick a killer pass from deep IMO. However within that midfield 3 there has to be a dog of war who will actually break play up and protect the back 4. There was noone in that role yesterday and when Derby weren't panicking at the back they had free run at our back 4 alot of the time.
I'm not suggesting we go out and get the panto villain Savage, but someone in his role, would be very nice. Either an old head that will hold in midfield or an enthusiastic chopper (Smith?

any team playing 4,5,1 needs a good holing midfielder and we seriously lack one,howson and kilkenny just arnt up to it.

i still thought there were plenty of positives to take from the game and with players such has kisnorbo,painter,gradel and snodgrass to come back it will add more competion foir places but has ive said an holding midfield player and of course another striker who is PROVEN at championship level or better is a must just for us to be competative.

Very good point away from home at probably the most difficult away games in the Championship. Very, very shakey first 20 minutes and we looked like we were going to get slaughtered but as the game went on we grew in confidence. I would say we dominated the whole second half and probably unlucky not to come away with 3 points, if only Sanchez had got a better head on it! Bessone was also much improved. Very encouraging. MOT!

Milner is too good of a player not to do well at City IMO. Was told about this move around World Cup time. Think Villa have got a good player in Ireland.

Just thinking about the new PL rule about having 25 in their squad. There could be afew decent players available for loan? Does the loan window shut the same day as the transfer window? Alot of clubs will loan players out so they can call them back if they have afew injuries. Maybe we'll get a decent striker in then?

IIRC the loan window doesn't shut with the transfer window.
