Me too. But it was part of what was then called Queen's Road school.
I lived at 17 Thornville Grove which was an end house directly opposite The Annexe as it was called. Every morning I could linger over my breakfast porridge, listen for the school bell and then dash 15 yards or so into school. Bliss.

I hated that place, I only went from September to December before we moved to Cookridge but after Brudenell Infants it was like a prison camp, a forced labour prison camp.
I recall two classrooms with a staff room in the middle and a large playground that was always full of broken glass - regular punishments were to give a child a basket and tell them to go ad collect broken glass (cue cries of "you couldn't do that these days"icon_wink.gif
My teacher was a nasty piece of work who drove me to tears one day because I couldn't understand what the fekk she was talking about when she tried to make me emphasis the second "there" in the phrase "they're there", the fact that I still remember it 48 years later speaks volumes of my hatred for the old b1tch - but they also had a bloke at the annexe who would have run Hitler close in a "most horrible" competition, a small greasy little runt with black glasses.
If you'd given me a can of Ronsonol and a match I'd have happily commited arson at seven years old.
....and breath....

Thornville Terrace as ever was; the mosque used to be the wooden Christadelphian church and the brick building is student flats where the Annexe stood.

An absolute gem of a find for the old gits!
Sir John Betjeman in Leeds
Inside Out rediscovers a film about Leeds made in 1968 by Sir John Betjeman, but never broadcast.
The film is available online but you may have to be patient as the servers are creaking with the interest.

| The Monte Carlo Cafe!
And, on page 16, that Porthcawl! We got recommended it as a good place for a night out by someone we met in Bridgened at last year's Meal Anyone? Weekend. He was a bloody liar. It was awful. We next glimpsed it appearing as the location for a day out for the dwellers of one of 'Britiain's Toughest Villages' on Sky One.

| Spent far too many hours as a teenager in this place nursing the ice at the bottom of a spent coke or 'coppering up' for a burger.
Great memories…

I can remember lurching in there for a burger after too many beers - it seemed like a 3 mile walk to the loo.

Back in the day when Burtons had their flagship shop on Briggate and it was the place to be for your man about town.
Burtons it was who first introduced us citizens to the concept of the "credit card" although they worked it slightly differently - you paid them a set monthly amount and they would keep your money until you wanted to spend it.
Back in the dark ages my dad signed up for a Burtons card and paid them £2 a month, every month, for ever - and I mean for ever.
He paid it for so long that they pleaded with him to close the account, it must have cost them £2.50 a month to collect the money by the time he died but he refused to cancel it and twice a year would venture across their threshold with his Burtons card and £12 to spend and he'd buy some socks and underpants.
When he died he had £8 credit on his Burtons account so me and my brother went and bought some socks and underpants and laughed all the way up Briggate.

Just a few!!
That photo of Holbeck sheds reminds me of spending time there with my grandad, who was running foreman when I was a nipper. Used to love being allowed to "drive" the deltics through the washer.

What, you can't work out where it is or something else ?
You can see the new inner ring road and the tunnel and the "international" swimming pool is highlighted too - both of these were opened at the same time and I suspect that date is probably the time, I was in my last year at Cookridge Primary and we used to go to Cookridge St baths for swimming but that year we had a big treat and the coach took us through the tunnel to the new baths, I suppose you had to be there.
1967, the summer of love, Procol Harem, Scott McKenzie, The Beatles and all that jazz...
It was great being 11 years old that year
