Yes ... [i"Keep right on to the end of the road" [/iis the far more traditional Loiner anthem.

Still the first half is worth it, even if it's just for the "WTF" moment when Wardy drops the goal just before half time.

Without a doubt, its a fantastic song. how many of todays team could sing it?
I was thinking simply the best because John was that, nothing to do with Wigan, it was the Winfield cup anthem of the time. anyway keep right on to the end of the road will get a airing somewhere along the line if wardy has anything to do with it!

The chorus of the song is the traditional Loiner anthem, here's the lyrics :
[iKeep right on to the end of the road,
Keep right on to the end,
Tho' the way be long, let your heart be strong,
Keep right on round the bend.
Tho' you're tired and weary still journey on,
Till you come to your happy abode,
Where all the love you've been dreaming of
Will be there at the end of the road. [/i
Youtube is your friend to get an idea of the tune ...
There are a few clips of Birmingham City fans singing it on there too, to give you a bit of an idea of what it sounds like with a crowd singing it.

IIRC it was actually used on the Winfield Cup pre-season TV ad and didn't Tina actually appear in the ad?
It was then brought to British RL and because Wigan were just starting their run of dominance it became the song that got played after final wins etc. As such, it became a Wigan song by default.

She did.
Kicked the living s[ihi[/it out of Blocker, Sparkles, the Eagle and Sterlo didn't she.
Best RL promo ever or was that 'What You Get Is What You See' or such like?
Edit: Typing '1989 Tina Turner Rugby League Promo' or '1990 Tina Turner Rugby League Promo' in to that famous video sharing website lets you re-live the moment.
The idea had run it's course by the '93 attempt though with the Aussie Jeremy Clarkson dueting.
As the RFL are generally about twenty years behind their Aussie counterparts it won't be long before we have our own version with Clodah Rogers.

| Have been told today at the club shop that the funeral is a "private" one.
I asked because my brother worked with John at a printers from leaving school and kept in touch over the years meeting in the Bridge Pub regularly, up till he fell ill, for a drink and a bit to eat.
Can anyone confirm the arrangements ????
The club shop also said there might be a recepetion afterwards at the ground for people to pay there respects and that there might be an announcement at the ground tomorrow.
Thinking of donating one of Johns playing shirts (83-84 JPS Final) back to the club if they might frame it and put it in the supporters club maybe.

I must admit to having to look up on Google to find out whom Clodah Rogers was... given that I was born in that year it should be one of the things that I sort of should know. However, now I do know and therefore can bore people with this fact over dinner... not that I need an excuse to do that, I am generally quite good at it.

| As Brian McClennan might say:
It was a 50:50 call between Clodah Rogers and Dame Vera Lynn.

There was a lot of really awful music around in the 60s too.

I think you went with the right choice, given that Dame Vera has just topped the 'album' chart this year. But maybe retro is in now and we could do a fine RL advert to the tune of 'White Cliffs of Dover'?

| Paid a rare visit last night to pay tribute to a legend, nice to see old faces and wonderful supporters, we went corporate but do wish someone had told me I didn't get free drinks allover chapel allerton then in town and 2 lap dances thrown in for my £70! could have had a season ticket at chelsea for what i spent on 1 match, was well worth it though, fantastic tribute by fantastic fans, well done.
Think this week has shown what a true legend John Holmes was.

| Excellent article on a great player, remember watching him play when leeds ever played hull from mid 70's onwards, must admit though never realised till his sad passing what a long and illustriuss career he had, i attended the 78 wembley final in my final year school trip and what a great final it was.

| Even as a Wigan fan, I feel for your loss.
It would be like us losing Billy Boston.
I hear that past players turned up in their droves to remember JH.
GOOD !
I was fortunate to see JH on many an occasion.
What he lacked in speed he made up for in class.
RIP John !
