| Quote ="AdmiralHanson"Did Eastwood (or his agent) tell us about his previous when we entered in to contract talks with him in the middle of last year ?
We should also go back to the point of when the paperwork was lodged with the British Embassy in Canberra .... Have they been sat on the documents since we signed him months ago or was the brown envelope handed to them a couple of weeks ago ?
What has our MP done about it ?
Was he applying for a passport or visa or both ?
On the plus side, I can see it being well in to the season before he gets here and that will just give us the right sort of boost for the run on the Challenge Cup. All being well, we're going to get a fresh player just at the time in the season when some of the rest of the squad will be starting to take a few knocks.'"
except he wont be eligible to play in challenge cup. They've done away with the second signing deadline this year iirc so if he aint here for your first cup game he's ineleigible for all of them.

No I don't, like every other driver on here.
But what I did after my 1st ,and only speeding conviction, was to take care in those circumstances where you're likely to get caught.
That's common sense something you clearly lack.

And do league games stop whilst the Challenge Cup is on ? Of course not, so we can further rotate the squad as and when he does arrive.

| This is more than a little amsing. Whilst the point might be slightly different over Bird and Eastwood, the comparison is funny.
Maybe Gary should have just kept quiet and checked his own situation with
Eastwood rather than claiming the moral high ground.

Indeed
Given that the majority of professional rugby players (and I'd expand that to "sportsmen in general"icon_wink.gif are the big daft lads at school who, if it weren't for the fact that they were good at sports would have ended up as big unemployed daft lads, then for someone who should know all about being a big daft lad struggling to find employment outside the game, (even I could get a job at Safestyle FFS) there's not a lot of moral high ground to look for let alone take, is there ?

I've only had one speeding ticket in over 30 years.
To answer your 1st commen I would class myself as stupid & be bloody annoyed with myself for being caught again because of the impact it could have on the costs of my car insurance.
Even more so since with sat nav you get advance warning of speed cameras, fixed & mobile and round where I live I know the usual spots that the police tend to use.
The issue with Eastwood is that Sporting Life alleged he had a string of speeding convictions, at 21 for goodness sake.

where, from information available to the Immigration Officer, it seems right to refuse leave to enter on the ground that exclusion from the United Kingdom is conducive to the public good; if, for example, in the light of the character, conduct or associations of the person seeking leave to enter it is undesirable to give him leave to enter.'"
it seems these would be the grounds under which he has been refused if its for driving convictions - how would speeding come under these rules when Brits are not locked up for speeding
anyway, I doubt we are paying him, if he doesnt have a work permit it is illegal for him to work so he cant be paid

sidenote:
baring in mind the chance of killing someone at 40mph, compared to 30mph. don't you think that going 10mph over the limit should be a bannable offence!
do you think the police/courts let you off with points & a fine because they're nice, or do you think that they give you (up to 5) chances because they know that its better to concentrate on the road ahead & know that with in the space on 10/15 seconds its very easy to be going 5/10mph over the limit with out noticing
Quote The issue with Eastwood is that Sporting Life alleged he had a string of speeding convictions, at 21 for goodness sake.'" how long is a piece of string ?
[size=67just in case you don't get my point, you can't get a number of offences from "a string of speeding convictions." so for all you know he's only had 2 or 3 convictions, of which he could have been unlucky for all of them.[/size

| It's a good job the Australians are less worried about criminal convictions when deciding wether someone can live and work there, or Eastwood would be completely out of options. Maybe there is some sort of historical precedent over there?

Yes it would. No need for a work permit. It seems that a lot of these new players are getting "less than clear" advice before applying.
If Eastwood qualifies for a British passport why the hell is he applying for a visa?

Because - as has already been stated numerous times - if you are applying for a UK passport [ion ancestral grounds[/i you still need to be able to show you are able to work in the UK. No visa, no work permit, no UK passport.

| With the high profile players (Crocker, Bird + Eastwood) been declined working visa's, I was just wondering what the wider effects of these cases will be.
Obviously the first point of impact are the clubs who haven't got their new signings, they are left with a weaker squad at present. I can't help but think Bulls and Hull are harder hit than Leeds over this. Hull could have done with a huge presence to off-set Carvell and the Bulls IMO desperatley need some pace and individual skill in the middle of the park. While I think Leeds have enough quality internally to just get on with things. I'm talking about: Kirke, Ali, Ablett, JJB. There's four players to plug the gap. And I suppose we can't miss what we haven't had, if anything we will miss Ellis' dogged displays.
The next point of impact are the player's who have been declined. From a Leeds angle, Eastwood at the minute is in no-mans-land. He's signed up but not in the same country, or playing rugby. Leeds are appealing, but how long are Leeds willing to bat for this guy? And how long will Eastwood (at 21) be interested in not playing? I mean a swift return to the NRL should be easy enough for him to arrange. If there isn't a resolution on this quickly, I can see both parties, quite happily, going in different directions. I mean I bet Leeds at the minute are assessing 'other options'.
What are the wider implications? One that springs to mind, will be the hesitance of Super League clubs to sign imports. If they are harder to get over here and applications fail, maybe we'll see less over here in the next few seasons. Even if its just for precautionary reasons. This must be a positive thing if we spend more focus on our talent and develop our players, to aid our international prospects. But on the other hand the Celtics and Budeus got over here in the end. And will there be implications of staging international tournaments. I mean how many would get over? And I still wouldn't fancy taking on Australia's B Team, Donald hat-trick no question.
