You made a comment based on the fact he'd appeared on the Footy Show, where it showed he'd been dropped. When he made his first team debut, not a dicky bird, but then again I suppose that's what I should have expected. After all, according to you losing a first round cup tie is more of a reason to "celebrate" than a victory.
As for Tansey's contract status, I, along with every one else on these boards I suspect, have no idea what the ins and outs are. I do know it has been widely reported he has joined the Roosters on a 2 year loan deal, before returning to the Rhinos in 2011. Whether or not he had signed a contract for 2009 with Leeds I have no idea.

Tansey had already overachieved on my expectations for him in the NRL by being in a position to be replaced in a first team squad.
Who is 'celebrating' getting knocked out of the Challenge Cup at home?

You're the one who pointed out that this season was the first time we'd gone out of the cup at the first attempt since 1998, along with the comment of "Enjoy the reunion guys!"

IIRC that was an answer to a question it's not as if I started a thread with it or anything.
Highlighting the historical significance of a particular result and linking it to an off field celebration is hardly 'celebrating' the defeat in my book. I'd imagine I were as disappointed as the next supporter, as I increasingly are game by game with this season as a whole.

There were no articles (that I recall) on Tansey's future at Leeds until the 'loan' deal to the Roosters was mentioned.
It is the norm when players sign extensions to existing contracts for it to be released via the press as a good news item. Perhaps I missed it but I don't recall any such announcement re Tansey. Are we to assume that Tansey is already contracted to Leeds for 2011?
Hetherington's use of the word 'Hopefully' is interesting. I assume he's also hopeful that Greg Eastwood will be able to (and decide to) start his three year Leeds contract in December 2009.

| Full back for the weekend after the good showing on Saturday. Now's his chance to make his mark.
Stats for last weekend anyway:
Meters: 100
Carries: 14
Busts: 1
Offloads: 3
Tackles: 4
Missed: 3
Errors: 1
He made 2 try saving tackles on the line and although he missed 3 they were late on and he was suffering as it was his 1st full game at that pace in a while, plus Sowward goes round most FB's at will anyway.
On the whole "Is he coming back in '11?" thing... lets put it this way. If you were single and in your early (mid by the time his contract is up) 20's and had the oportunity to stay in Sydney longer would you come back? I wouldnt!

That is the part where it all falls down for me but hey I didn't think he would see this much gametime in the NRL in the first place. I didn't realise any NRL club (even the Roosters) were quite this desperate.
Tansey in SL was your classic 'jack of all trades' even though he didn't do any of them particularly well and I'll be amazed if that doesn't become apparent in the NRL over time.
Can't knock the lad for giving it a go though.

He was a decent player, but was never able to get a run in his best position. He had a lot to recommend him though.
Time in the NRL will do him good. If he gets a few games he can surely only improve. He'll be subject to much more rigorous training, and will be pushed to improve week on week

I don't think he looks kike a halfback to be honest. I think full back might be his best position. For the team his utility tag was good, for himself I think he needs to specialise in a position, and I think fullback would be the one to go for. Seems like the Roosters might be giving him that chance.
I think the talent is in there, but it didn't quite seem to emerge at Leeds. Being 3rd choice (at best) at full back won't have helped.

I personally thought he was a decent fullback. Looked safe under the high ball, and returned the ball well. He never seemed to boss the game in the halves, and his floor passing wasn't good enough from hooker.

| I think were justifying his claims to be a jack of all trades and master of non quite adequately here.
Full back - too slow to the ball, never beat a man on the return. Safety was his only concern.
Wing - Neither big enough nor fast enough, just a filler.
Half/back - His only hope, had a good one at the Harlequins from the bench on that scorching hot midday kick off game in 2007. Not sure who he was on for at the time but he played like a stand off. That was the game when Webb spent a quarter of it in the sin bin and should really have been off.
Hooker - if you say so. Defence in and around the ruck area was half hearted at best. The attempted tackle on Pryce in the Qualifying Semi Final last year said it all.
If the NRL can turn Tansey into anything specific then they must have some excellent coaches down there.

| To be fair he must have something that coaches can see, and fans can't. That could be flexability though, and being just about good enough to cover most back positions to a decent standard

He must have, mustn't he. I always thought there was a bit of an X-Factor when he played and his ability to score the odd try would support that.
For Leeds he started 20 from:
Full Back - 13
Wing - 1
Stand Off - 2
Hooker - 3
Loose Forward - 1
In total his Leeds stats were: Played 20 + 33, Tries 21, Goals 3, Points 90
He played in just the three SL Play Off games:
2006 - EPO - Full Back - Warrington - Home - =redLost 17 - 18
2007 - QSF - Sub - St Helens - Away - =redLost 8 - 10
2008 - QSF - Sub - St Helens - Away - =redLost 10 - 38

| Tansey does carry a bit of lower league quality about him, that's for sure. He is a utility player, probably because at Leeds he hasn't displayed the quality in the direct positions he has been trialed in. It was always going to be hard for him to get a regular spot at Leeds. But he's the kind of player are vital to a title winning team. Your squad players can't all be world beaters. Fact. And his flexibilty to cover an array of positions is a huge string to his bow. He hasn't played many games in his Leeds career, and he's hardly settled into a role. He's had bad games and better games. He knows where the try line is, doesn't matter how they come about, he seems to get them. He probably represents excellent value for money. He seems to get his head down and get on with things. Future international? No. Handy squad player in retaining titles? Oh yes.

Maybe more English players are given the opportunity to join the NRL than we realise. It's just they don't have the balls to make the move.
