When I lived on the Bellbrookes in Harehills my house was used for a film called 'The Sunny Side of the Street' featuring none other than Nigel Pivaro. The film was about a Man Utd fan played by the former Corrie star, a kid who made a space helmet and something else I've forgotten. As you may have gathered it was a bit s*** and they made a mess of the back yard.
I think I've got a VHS copy somewhere, never had the urge to dig it out.

Saw some good punk gigs at the Bierkeller and was then thrown out of a later incarnation for having a foot on the dancefloor whilst holding a pint (GCH knows the score).

Channel 4 made a drama show based around a bunch of junior solicitors at a Leeds based firm. Was called North Square. Had Kevin McKidd (Trainspotting, Rome) and Phil Davies in it.

Has anyone else watched Tina Takes A Break, Tina Goes Shopping and Mischief Night? All set and filmed in Leeds.

A lot of LoM was filmed in Bolton, and the area behind Picaddilly station was used for a lot of the back-streets.

Radio Leeds used to broadcast from there too when they started out 40 years this year.

The Tina stuff was filmed on the Cottingley estate wasn't it? They were pretty good as I recall.

Me and our lass saw "Nicholas and Alexander" (on telly last week) and "The Magic Christian" (loada crap featuring Ringo Starr) there in about 1971.

Nickelodeon also filmed in Farsley. I’ve got the VHS at home. That was in 2001!

'Mischief Night' has many scenes filmed in and around Cross Flatts park in Beeston and some filmed in the Thornvilles in Burley (with the mosque in the background).

Just check through the IMDb location tree for Leeds or anywhere nearby. It takes a while to load all those locations (even just the ones in England) but it's worth waiting for. Or you can go straight to the location tree for West Yorkshire.

The first one that springs to mind for me when you say "Leeds" is the Beiderbecke trilogy of TV movies/series if you count them. They were filmed in and around Rawdon, S eacroft and other parts of the Leeds area.

just noticed, answering my own question, it says it shut in 1977, I am pretty damn sure i went there in 1980.

My doubt's about the accuracy of the details on there are further hightened, by the name of the actress mentioned in there, sounds like the Yorkshire version of a well known actress.

1977 is the year I moved away from Leeds so can't help I'm afraid



Gillinson Barnett the architects of Arnold Ziff's Merrion Centre are mentioned in that piece - I nearly took a job with them when I left school but was offered a job at my first interview elsewhere (you literally walked into jobs straight out of school in 1974) - they were the architects who were involved in the fatal design flaw of the Summerland Centre which burned down within minutes in the summer of 73 (???) with loss of life - unfortunately they had clad the building in a plastic material which was supposed to be fireproof - and then proved not to be fireproof - the company I worked for installed the electrical system there so for some time during the enquiry both companies were ting themselves, fortunately (for us) the fire had been started by youths setting fire to a builders portakabin behind the centre, fortunately for the architects the manufacturers of the cladding took the rap.

Gillinsons and the company I worked for did a lot of work at the time for the Star Cinema Group who opened up most of the first multi-entertainment centres in the Uk int he 1970's, Star Cinema inflicted Scamps Disco's and Hofbrauhous on the population so don't shed any tears as to the fact that they went out of business in a spectacular way with two of their directors (one of whom lived at Pool-in-Wharfedale and who's daughter was "known" to me) going to jail for tax reasons

I remember North Square, had a young Scottish lass in it as well who was rather nice. As BTB mentions, that was about barristers and not solicitors and also was on C4 and not ITV.
