| Props top of the list. Everything else is secondary. Centre is quite far down the list.
Centres wise obviously Newman is great. I actually think Sutcliffe has gone ok this year, and doubt we’d get much better without overpaying when other areas needed. Plus there’s Levi and Simpson who are clearly well rated, Levi with a full year of playing against men at York as well. There’s even Hardaker depending on what the choice is with myler and Walker, though I think Zak will nail down fullback.

| It’s all opinions but for mine we won’t be able to afford 2 props better than Holroyd. I don’t think anyone carries 6 good props.
Wire started this year with 6 British props and now seen to want 4/5 new ones.
The 6 were of Variable quality and size, Philbin, Cooper, bullock, mulhern, butler and Harrison. Butler now at wakey with Amor in plus Micaela. Dudson and Kasiano in next year plus ?
If we can sign 1 good one and 1 young prospect that is realistic, clearly more if Prior or Tet leave as well.

One good one (Ava 2) from the NRL, and then possibly a Mulhern for me. If Holroyd can nail down a spot in the starting seventeen with that kind of competition he'll have gone some way to fulfilling his vast, but so far unrealised, potential.

Agree with the above. When you read back over some of the posts regarding Holroyd you would think he is a top super league prop not somebody who has made 14 appearances in 4 years! Both he and Walters were top under age players with real size within their age group. The potential is there in both but they are a long way from being the immediate answer to Leeds go forward issues. They need games and allowed to develop. At 22 Walmsley was still playing amateur RL.

Agree with you and Arthur, both still very young with plenty of learn. If he stays fit next year I think Holroyd will start coming on leaps and bounds.

| I’m not sure where people think these barnstorming props are coming from. Also citing the fact we have a brilliant centre in Newman so not a priority is a joke….
How many games has Newman played in last two seasons?

That’s not what people have said though is it. We have one very good centre in newman, one solid if unspectacular option in Sutcliffe and then one player who’s ready for first team exposure in edwards, alongside a young prospect in Simpson. How many centres do we need given all those are under contract.
As for props. They can be found, they don’t have to be barnstormers, but one in the mould of Mago, who didn’t exactly have loads of NRL experience should be achievable given Smiths likely QLD cup contacts. Then a Mulhern type or a slightly more prop sized prop to take mustaphas squad place.

| James Harrison had been out all year at wire, happily take him as prop 6 if that was possible but who knows with the vagaries of the cap and whether Powell wants to keep him.
I’m not fully with Shabba but class centres make a big difference.
Not sure if Levi is a centre or second row and Simpson is still 17, so they have a long time to come good.
Just hope
We get a few ones with some real quality

| I agree on Harrison.
A class centre would be nice, but shouldn’t be a priority given the state of the pack. Even with Sutcliffe and Martin there we’ve made breaks and scored tries. And that would only improve with the field position and go forward an improved pack would bring. And saying we need to sign a centre because Harry hasn’t played can even more be applied to the front row given holroyd and all the bans.

Agreed. Not that anyone should be judged playing in the teams we put out in those games either.

Hmm, and the reason he can't get a game for a dreadful Wire side at the moment is because?

Either way, why would you sign a player that isn't getting picked in a rubbish side; or one that has very recently, or is currently, injured.
Very odd thought process.

Because when fit he can be pretty useful. I reckon he will be playing for Wire soon, mind you I accept that Is not a high bar at present.

Apologies. To be exact he’s only recently come back from injury.
In terms of why I’d sign him, he posesses a quality our current pack is missing, one that can’t be taught, and one that often we have to turn to overseas players for, and that is a big frame
and size.
A ‘Harrison Type’ if you will should be occupying our 5th and six prop spot imo, rather than the glut of undersized middles me posses. That’s one thing I’m really hoping Smith roots out.

| I think we're looking at the prop situation all wrong, we need to get props 2 and 3 right first not 5 and 6. And Harrison is neither of those. If neither Tetevano or prior will leave then we have to over load cap space in the front row and free up some to get someone better with them becoming 3 and 4 (possibly 5 if Holroyd can get on the pitch). If we don't recruit better than those 2 we're not moving into that top 4 any time soon..

| Jeez - we're quick to drop Prior like a sack of spuds.
Hope he doesn't read these threads.
He carried our pack for 2 years and his form has dropped off a bit this year.
Hardly in the same bracket as Tetevano - who hasn't performed to the level he should have.
If both go at the end of the season (which I don't think will happen btw) we are in major trouble in the front row.
It will be panic stations in the transfer market.
One bit of credit for Wire is that they've spotted it and acted early.
We haven't - which suggests we either haven't spotted it, or both are staying next year.

I suspect Tetevano is staying, i'm still not convinced Prior will stay at the end of the season, that will be an interesting one but Leeds could do with knowing now. Can't believe we gave him 2 more years. i rate him, he's been excellent but this should have been his last.

| Sorry, I'm struggling to be sentimental after watching dross for years. Prior was good in the first half of last season then dropped off and has been poor this season offering little. Fact remains our 2nd choice prop needs to be better than him or Tetevano.

| Prior wasn't an out-and-out prop in the NRL - more of a 13. The classic 'middle' in fact. Not a player you want to use as a simple battering ram, same as Merrin before him.
