| I think we'll really see Golding progress in the next 12 months. I've seen him out and about a few times, and although he's scrawny he has a decent frame, so I think has he develops, and adds some timber he'll be a very good player. I think the club view him more as a halfback in the long term, but whatever position he ends up playing all the raw materials are there for a very good player IMO.

| Quote ="G1"Golding will be at Leeds for year's to come. It's "fans" like World's Apart that should f**k off to some other club, not talented you lads like Golding.'"
Except he won't, will he? He's never going to displace the back 3, or Handley who's already proven himself a much better prospect. He's not going to get ahead of Sutcliffe (or Lilley, who actually is a halfback) or whoever we sign to cover the transition period between McGuire/Burrow and Lilley/Sutcliffe.
So when in a couple of years we have to decide between letting him go or letting Ash Handley go, it'll be Golding.
Might as well get rid now and save ourselves the trouble.

I must admit your postings are thought provoking to say the least.
I had to read your comment about ' get rid now and save ourselves the trouble ' twice as it seems so bizarre.
Golding has a lot of potential, he is work in progress, he is still a kid learning his trade.

| Imagine getting so worked up over the performance of an kid in what, his third game in first grade?
He needs work, and a lot more meat on his bones, but there is some talent there that needs nurturing.

| Worlds Apart does seem to have a serious beef with Golding that is extraordinarily intense. Way over the top for a kid with limited first team time. At this stage he is a prospect, promising or not depending on your point of view, but hardly deserving of the vitriol that WA piles on him. Last night I put it down to an alcohol fuelled rage but WA is still banging the drum this afternoon.
Come on Worlds apart what's the real beef here?

| Thought he did ok, you can see why though at times why people don't think his future lay at FB.
This might be his biggest problem in terms of becoming a future first teamer at Leeds. What position and our strength in our backs. If we were to sign Brierley for example and Sutcliffe remains in the halves and we still have another year or two of McGuire and Lilley in the hunt then it's going to be very difficult for him to get a crack at Leeds.

| I smell someone who has a relative that got shipped out of Leeds without getting a chance in the first team.
The reference to George Elliot - who never looked anything more than a mediocre Academy player - is baffling. Quite the name to pull out of the hat when making a comparison, unless it's one the OP was in some way already familiar with.

| Certainly a very strange outburst not based on rugby acumen or facts but more on emotion with personal remarks about his Afro hairstyle. He also keeps mentioning Handley as a fullback forgetting that this player was allowed the space to make a series of defensive errors which happens with youngsters as they gain experience. Golding is certainly a talent that is here to stay.

Golding shagging his bird is a much more fun idea though
I remember the same poster sticking the knife into Golding after his debut match vs Warrington away so he's got previous for it and wrote him off after one single appearance.

| Seems like some people enjoy mediocrity. The fact is Leeds Rhinos have enjoyed 11 years of success, and are on course for a treble. Golding is nothing more than average. To pull that Rhinos jumper you need to do more than "OK" or "grow into the game."

But for his age, experience and first team exposure, he is more than average. Others with the power and presumably experience to judge, seem to think he's worth a go.
p.s. You are worlds apart and I claim my £5.

Not saying Golding is average but even our title winning teams have had "average" players in. The playoff semi final in 2009 to get to Old Trafford we had Simon Warrell in the 17. A salary cap sport with 25 spots means you need an average guy in. Clarkson, Hauraki, Griffin, Moore have been in our 25 man squads that won GF's.

| The biggest failing Golding exhibited last night was trying too hard not to mess up, which on a couple of occasions made him look hesitant and indecisive.
Once he'd settled in and found his stride I thought he did ok - alight he wasn't ripping up any trees but I've seem much worse that regularly get a SL shirt.

Digging your heels in about Keinhorst I see. Can't even give the faintest of praise. Much like your contious criticism of Ablett whenever we lose.....reality is it helps to be critical of the "other" second rower away from your high-school crunch of Stevie Ward....who achieved VERY little with his carries on Friday, less than 5m per carry it was for a 2nd row.....but I imagine he was "immense" again

You said average, not out of place. Which of course also answers Printers little rant also.

| Didn't see the match so can't comment on Golding's performance vs Stains, but as a Wigan fan I have seen him play against our academy and he looked a good prospect. Also looked good against the Aussie schoolboys although with my Wigan bias would have picked our FB Gabe Fell instead. Full back is a difficult position for a young kid to play in as every error is emphasised, much like a goalkeeper in football. If you play a young kid at full back too early you can ruin their career, much as we did with Jack Murphy against you lot in the 2012 play-offs.

But according to Phil Clarke he was outstanding against Bradford in a previous match and fully justified his selection.I seemed to remember Leeds targeted Charnley more in that match to good effect. It was just unfortunate for the goons he came up with the play of the match right at the end.He did not deserve to be binned in the way they did though.Ash did ok in the saints match in only his 4th SL game.I can remember JJB and others having some early nightmare matches and they have turned out ok.
