I believe you're right - Good riddance I say, I’d spend several hours trying on sh[size=100i[/sizet shoes then end up in Clarkes getting the same as my older brother.

I watched a fascinating documentary recently on skyscrapers and when they built the Twin Towers in NY they got Australian kangaroo cranes which were inside the structure and climbed up it was it was being built.

How do the cranes get built so high in the first place ?
Do they lay them on the ground and pull them upright with ropes and lots of burly men in vests ?

At least you got to take a couple of months off in the summer - I left school on a Friday in July and started work on the Monday and with no accrued holidays (not even my missing school holidays which strangely didn't count) I worked right through for a full year before taking a day off.
Of course, those were hard times, dun't know their born now...

Well, I've seen tower cranes being built by using mobile extending cranes on the ground but you couldn't do that with this kind of height.
I reckon that what you need to do is build a tower crane as normal.
Then when the building nearly as high as the crane, you use that crane to lift an extending crane on top of the building.
Then use that extending crane to build the tower crane even higher.
I'm a genius, me.
I could have got those planks across the gym in the Army Officers' initiative tests, easy.

Thats genius that is, you see someone like me isn't capable of thinking like that.
(and now the Columbo moment...)
Just one more thing though sir...
How do they dismantle the big tower crane when the buildings finished ?

That's where the lateral thinking comes in.
You don't dismantle it.
This is Leeds, so you'll obviously need to knock the building down in a few years time.
The crane will come in handy for that.
I'm wasted in this job.
I'm wasted most weekends as well.

| Quote ="El Barbudo"My innate sense of duty took me to this pub last Friday (just after the Leeds v Ganson match).
It is at the Granary Wharf end of Water Lane and is indeed almost adjacent to the Cross Keys, as someone said earlier.
Firstly, the beer is superb.
Secondly, the pub is a newly refurbed old building and looks it.
Newly refurbed, that is.
It's a bit too new, neat and tidy for an old boozer like me.
Mostly empty, the staff outnumbered the punters and it is still lacking character as yet but I'd be easily inclined to give it another go, if only for the fab beer.
Also, when I get round to sampling the sausages at the Palace I'll report back on that too.'"
I have now tried the Cross Keys as well (I needed a pint after the tense game against Huddersfield).
It's a really nice pub with a pleasant atmosphere in a smartened-up old building.
Good service and a varied selection of proper beer, as well as Belgian lagers.
Menu reads well, too.

I am led to believe there could be a city centre pub, and a leeds brewery lager in the offing (but i didn't tell you that)

IIRC there was a sixties sitcom filmed in Quarry Hill (although I could be wrong).
From what I understand it was flattened in 1978 and a majority of the population was move the brand new, state of the arts housing complex that we affectionately know as Holt Park.
Frying pan and fire springs to mind.

It wasn't very good.
It relied on the big lardd bleached blonde Dors far too much and when you hold that sort of opinion on her personality and acting abilities then the series is never going to work.

It was weird growing up in the 70's. She was famous, and you weren't sure why, she being just an overweight blonde with little talent.
Then, sometime later, you see some pictures of her in her heyday, and it all becomes clear....
